Neighbor Dies

I came home from an errand in the morning yesterday and saw two police cars down in front of the house at the end of the cul de sac.

I wondered if it was a result of all the cars from the house next to it, on the block all night, for a graduation party.  So I asked a young man just leaving from that house if everything was ok.  He told me the neighbor man, next to his uncle's place, was found dead.

I guess a relative called in a welfare check.  He had family in town here.  They couldn't get an answer out of him.  The police found him dead.  I don't know what he died from, but something considered natural causes.

That's his place down at the very end there, with the white SUV out front.  I think they were loading his body at that point.

I didn't know him.  He's lived there a few years.  He always wore a stylish hat though and drove a red SUV of some kind.   He wasn't as old as I am, I don't think.

I don't know anything more than that.   You wouldn't think there would be such a high turnover of people on one little short dead end street but there has been.   I can't remember how many different folk lived in that house he died in before him, while I've lived on the block.  First off, it was a military recruiter and his family.  His wife was also in the military.   They were very slick dressers and both often wore black and rode motorcycles.  I liked them.  After they moved out, someone else moved in, maybe a family, and after that another big group of people had it.  Then maybe it was him after that.  I don't remember everybody and can't keep track anymore.

My Lebanon friend who had knee replacement a couple weeks ago is having a tougher time of it than my brother did.  Her leg swelling hasn't gone down enough to even be able to bend her leg and she says the bruising up and down her leg is tremendous.   I hope something changes for her and she ends up with a good outcome in the end.

It will be in the 90's again today so I got done what I needed to do and won't do anything more til tonight, after the heat fades.  I sleep in the afternoon during the hottest part of the day so I can do chores like laundry in the cool of the night.

  1. Heat like that has me hunkered down in the middle of the day too. I do what needs to be done early or late.
I am glad that your neighbour had family who could ask for a welfare check. Too often people go undiscovered. Which is awful for everyone.

    1. no kidding, probably will be me, laying dead in here for days or weeks, while my cats feast on my body. Lol. That's a pretty thought, isn't it?

  2. My neighbor died a couple of years ago and there was a large police/emergency squad presence for a couple of hours. He had been sick, but because he died without witnesses (his wife found him dead in the bathroom), there had to be an investigation. He was a great neighbor helping everyone in the neighborhood with projects.

    1. Yeah, I still don't know why he died and probably never will. I saw him a couple times when we crossed at the mailbox, but he usually drove to that also.

    1. Another neighbor said he had terrible trouble, from bad knees, getting in and out of his car. He was found dead in his garage. She thinks he fell trying to get out of his car, maybe hit his head. I also found out from her that the single man living two houses from me sold his house, in four days, for an astronomical amount compared to what he bought it for and he hasn't even lived there very long. I don't know who bought it. He's still moving out, pack rat, she said. Getting caught up on all the gossip!

  4. It’s been a while since I checked your blog or anyone else’s. Why did you delete the Facebook page?
When my dad died and the paramedics took him away with sirens blaring, the neighbor saw the whole thing. He’s Asian, doesn’t speak English, and sits in his garage all the time. A few months later, his daughter asked about my dad and then translated for her dad. He gave condolences. I never knew that he and my dad communicated despite the barrier.

    1. I'm on a break and even though my pinned to the top post stated that, I was still getting calls and messages from that page. It's not deleted, its unpublished now. Still there, but only viewable by me. I will republish a couple weeks before I end my break. That's incredible about the neighbor and your dad having a friendship despite the language barrier.
