Bye Bye Chatty. Hello Rum and Jamaica!

Well, Chatty took off on Monday, travelling north to the big city of Portland, Oregon, where she is up for adoption with Felines First Rescue.  If you live up that way, contact Felines First Rescue (they're on Facebook) and go see her!

In the meantime, the two women fostering Rum and Jamaica, since January 24, returned them.  They were supposed to tame them and return them, but then they ran into a lot of personal issues, couldn't get them back to me, but finally did.

The girls came back just half hour ago or so and have settled into the bathroom recently occupied by Chatty Katty.  My friend in Vancouver is likely going to take them into a foster group she works with.  I hope so.  They're good!

Rum's in the back, Jamaica up front.

Jamaica

Rum
Rum is still her super athletic self while Jamaica purrs at the drop of a hat.  Jamaica's face is more elongated than Rum's making it far easier now to tell them apart.

They are skittish but already purring.   Now to find them homes.

Something good happened today.  After that last repair, at that expensive shop, they had included about three pages of suggested repairs.  One of those was replacing the rear brake shoes.  They listed a price of $400.  I knew I wouldn't go there to have it done.  But the thought I was driving around with dangerous brake shoes, and could be a liability on the road to others, has played on my mind ever since.  I don't want to be negligent.  I'm very sensitive that way.

So I imagined scraping noises and all sorts of things and made an appointment at Schwab.  I have been not buying much food, to save for the brake job, so much so in fact a friend the other day said "enough" and took me to the grocery store, said she was buying me groceries.

Imagine my shock and happiness, when the mechanic came out from the back at Les Schwab here in Albany today and said I don't need brake shoes, that they're fine and asked who told me I did.   I told him and he rolled his eyes.   I was  in tears I was so happy.  Also my faith was restored in the human race.  They were not going to sell me a brake job I didn't need.

Imagine!  Honesty!

I'm so used to people using me and scamming, the tears flowed.

It is a fairly simple job to check them yourself. But no matter, you have an honest and decent mechanic.

  3. it's still good to know For SURE your brakes are good from a shop. Sometimes us "back yard mechanics" can miss something, and now you can relax about the brakes. maybe buy a nice snack with the $ you saved :)

  4. Those are beautiful kitties... I hope they find homes soon. Happy for your good news... and it's always good to hear good stories about folks instead of the bad stuff.

  5. I'm reminded of a rare encounter today when someone told me he would be leaving and another person would ultimately take care of me. No problem, I figured, and a nice gesture for him to tell me. Then he reappeared. So I teased him about not wanting to leave his post and learned that he stayed for an overworked coworker. Hurray for good people!
