I just tallied Poppa's expenditure's for May--$2155, to fix 55 Linn and Benton County cats. Please consider making a donation to Poppa Inc., to fund the continued fixing of Linn County cats.
Most people, whose cats I got fixed through Poppa, donated not a dime. Most memorable of the entitlement crowd this month would have to be the Riverside Dr. college student, who, after getting five strays she fed, four of them female and her own female cat, fixed, six in all, with me providing all the labor and transport, not only didn't donate a dime, but threw a hissy fit when I asked she return my traps.
55 more cats are now fixed. 23 of those are Benton County cats and 32 are Linn County cats. 14 of the 55 could be considered feral. The rest were owned. House cats. 35 of the 55 cats fixed this month, paid for by the hard labor of a handful of volunteers, selling plants up at Recycled Gardens in Hillsboro, were females.
I got 16 additional Benton and Linn cats, all feral, fixed at the May 7 Philomath FCCO clinic. Of these 16, nine were females.
In total, my labor and the sacrifice of volunteers raising money to fund the fixes, got over 70 Linn and Benton county cats fixed in May alone.
But consider this, if you think I'm making any progress: It takes only ten females allowed to breed even once, to produce fifty more cats. That's if they breed only once. A female will, if not fixed, usually have up to three litters in one summer. So just a few people, allowing their unfixed cats to have litters, undoes my efforts rapidly.
This is why I am considering quitting doing what I do, because of the widespread Linn County mentality that it's ok to breed. SafeHaven too adopts out unfixed kittens. It's hard to stand alone with a finger in the hole in the dam.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
