Day of Rest

Last night, late, a Sweet Home friend called me.  It surprised me, but I answered.  I was deep into watching Season 3 of the Great American Baking Show, which is the same as the British baking show but with Americans.

There's something so relaxing and civil about this show.  No yelling at the bakers.  Silly jokes which make me laugh....I really like it.

My friend feeds a bobtail male cat outside.  She was convinced he was already fixed, until a new cat showed up and was obviously in heat.  Then PK, her hopefully fixed outside kitty, began mounting the new arrival.   I think she panicked, being a spay neuter advocate, and set her trap over the panic.  Friday night is not a good night to trap.   Then she suddenly realized she should close the trap but PK was in it.

Her trap is huge.  Her house is small and she has five cats already.  I said "bring him over".  I immediately regreted saying that, being so worn out still.

Over she came.  She got here near 11:00.  For a long while we attempted to manuever the monstrous trap so I could see from underneath if he had balls.   I'd set up a cage, which was hard on my back.  But in the end we could not manuever that huge trap to get him into the cage.  She took him back home with her.  I did get a good look and saw he does have balls.  They were hard to see because he tucked his short tail down over them.

PK's balls

I don't know if she released him or put him in an outdoor catio she has but hasn't used yet.

She'll need to catch her latest show, the in heat girl.

The cage is still up.   A lot of chores did not get done today I'm happy to admit.

I returned the three cats this morning by 9:30, to two places.  I left a trap at Brighty and Mimi's place, set up with a string holding the door open run up and over the smooth plastic handle of a garbage can, then tied off around a high rung of a ladder near the door into the house.  The lady is going to attempt to get the second pregnant one she feeds in it, by feeding wet food in the trap today and hoping she'll go in for wet food in the morning.  Then she'll cut the line that holds the door of the trap open (and she laid scissors right on a ladder rung).  I tried to make it easy for her.   Usually I'd have had her feed in the trap a week before trying that but we don't have a week and all my traps had been in use.  I have two appointments Monday in Salem.  It's a lot easier to catch most of the cats at one time, but we didn't have the appointments for this colony, so we are instead trying to selectively catch the girls first.

Then I drove another couple of traps to the next colony I'll help trap.  It was only a few minutes from this one.  Nice folks there.  One cat already has five darling two week old kittens.  They rigged the mom and kittens a rainproof bed on their deck and mom so far is taking good care of them.  She won't be going to be fixed and now they think a second female has had kittens off somewhere too.  They'll feed for a few days in those two traps before we try to trap for the next FCCO trip with the cats of that colony.

I was home near 11:00 a.m. and after that I just vegetated basically, napping in my chair in my robe.   I  watched the last 3 episodes of this latest season of Great American Baking Show.  It was featured free on roku.  How I love Roku and all their free channels and offerings.

I had ice packs on my back, neck, shoulder and knee off and on.

No chores outside of litter box cleaning will be done.

It's now almost 8:00 p.m. and I'm roasting up some vegetables for dinner.

I played around with pictures on my phone too.  My phone will outline animals or faces or anything in photos and you can then cut them out of the photo.

Here are a few:

This is that sweet little kitten from Bellinger Road, sent to me by the rescue who took him in.

Slinko and Teddy

Mimi, who was fixed yesterday, and the bobtail female who is already fixed.  They were sitting on the driveway.

This was taken from a photo of the Waterloo colony I caught and took to be fixed last fall.

Anyhow, what fun, eh?

  1. I am so glad that you mostly had a day of rest. Love the photo play.
The Great Baking Shows (from whatever country) are fun aren't they? There is the British one, and also Australian, Canadian, Kenyan, and South African versions. There may be others too.

  2. The images altered by the phone are great fun. It seems like you are dealing with some nice and sensible people, for a change.

    1. It's been too easy lately Andrew, with really nice people needing help with cats. The next colony---also great people.

  3. We have thought about getting Roku or something similar, but every time we've checked, it's been cheaper to get the cable package with internet, than to do something like Roku and get the internet separately. We only have one choice for internet service, so there's no competition pricing. However, it's probably time to do a new evaluation.

    1. Roku is free. The wifi ready device that plugs into my TV which is not a smart TV, was cheap $20. I just stream it thru wifi from my desktop. Yeah I'm one of those people who still has a desktop. It's a refurb'd computer that was gifted me from a friend. She paid $100 for it on amazon and it has worked fine for over a decade. I have comcasts low income low speed internet (plenty fast) for $30 a month. I was allowed on that plan when the government quit assisting with internet cost (or phone, you had to pick either or). The comcast low cost plan is generally allowed only for families with school age kids. So for $30 a month I not only get internet but also can stream anything on roku and they have so much free content its unbelievable plus its always changing. There's lots of live TV too. Plus this house had a rooftop antenna when I moved in so I get a variety of channels over antenna, although it changes with the weather. It's really awesome!

    2. So many people no longer want a desktop and just use their phones for internet you can find anything you could desire for almost nothiing used, as accessories to a desktop. I use my brothers phone and plan for phone so try not to use data on it. Plus I can't see it well and just don't like it for reading or watching anything. I find myself squinting if I use it much. I use it for photos, texting, and phone calls. Oh and grocery lists.

  5. Glad to hear you're getting some rest. Too bad about the male cat. Just when you think everything is done, you find that one that slipped through the cracks.

    1. I didn't even know she fed an outside stray, let alone that it wasn't fixed. I haven't heard from her again, to find out if she turned him loose or put him in her catio to await neuter.

Where's the End?

Ha!  I thought that S. Lebanon colony would be a quick fix.  I was told originally it was just four cats.  I'm up to 11 caught now, wit...
