Do I sound like a broken record?
Three more cats are up being fixed today. I got last minute spots. I'd not been to the colony before, at a busy truck stop, restaurant, motel right off the freeway south of here about 12 miles.
A lot of nice people there, that's for sure.
I caught three, one of the girls, there are several, and most have litters, and two of the boys, one who appeared to have been dumped off six weeks ago, they said. He's tame, once a pet probably, but at least he'll be fixed now. We named him Drake, for the records.

It's a large area, but it didn't take long to catch the three.
After I dropped the cats at the clinic, I encountered a man, walking middle of the busy road, oblivious to traffic, in his own world.
There are so many people on drugs now, or having mental issues, or just financial issues and in trouble and homeless.
The rest area I passed on the way up, seemed overloaded spilling out along the freeway, with broken down rigs of various sorts, and people in their cars, parked along the freeway.
I feel lucky to have a home.
It's a sad commentary of our times that so many have fallen into homelessness. A new colony to get fixed? Sounds like you have a new project.
ReplyDeleteHaven't finished the last project yet, but since it takes hours upon hours, up at the 7-11 colony to catch even one, I couldn't do it for today or even for Monday, with temps in mid 80's today and tomorrow also. Too hot to sit in a car for hours. It's bad here, all over, everywhere, tent cities, broken down trash filled RV's, people living in broken down cars. Many are drug addicts. It's a plague here--the drugs. When people are addicts they only think about the drugs, not their kids, or their animals, drug zombies. They wear sunglasses in the dark. They yell and scream on sidewalks or disrobe jumping around and yelling into the air. It's a plague.
DeleteWell done. Again. You continue to improve the lives of the cats around you. Glad that the people are nice too.
ReplyDeleteHomelessness, financial issues. drugs and despair seem to be the diseases of our time. And are too close to too many of us.
The drug addictions here around where I live in this county are so severe.
DeleteYour kitty rescues make me happy. I'm sorry that so many folks aren't so lucky. Be well, my dear.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteWhile there may be less reason to be homeless in Australia, we still have them and the numbers are growing.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it was a pretty easy to catch the three. You'll be back there I guess.
It was an easy catch. Divorce or couples splitting is another big homelessness cause, as is the death of the working spouse, or even one spouse, because things are so expensive, takes both to pay the basic bills. That's just another reason people end up living in cars. Landlords selling rental houses puts people out when they can't find another they can afford. Loss of income if someone gets sick or if a car breaks down so people can't get to work. There are lots of reasons besides drugs but drugs addicts become the visible homeless, the ones stealing and trashing areas, because they're so out of it and all they come to care about is the drugs. The silent invisible homeless, the ones who still try to work, who are out of homes because of things above, I wonder how many there really are out there.
DeleteVilla the calico reminds me of my old cat Lucy. I miss her. She was such a sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteI have to get her back down to Pioneer Villa, the truck stop/motel this morning, as she is lactating.
