Five More Cats

Five more Shedd colony cats left this morning, with the colony caretakers daughter, to be fixed up at the OHSS clinic in Salem.  I got up early, to change them to clean traps.   The kittens will leave this evening, when the husband drops off the five here to spend the night recuperating before return to the colony.

I'm really happy for the kittens.  I also feel guilt I haven't had time, with all the trapping and projects, to work with them a whole lot.  After trapping and caring for lots of extra cats, I'm too worn out to socialize kittens too.  So its good they are moving elsewhere where maybe they'll get more socialization.   Colony caretaker's daughter and her husband are taking them.

I talked to the glass repair shop yesterday and the window glass will arrive Monday.  They had to order out for it.  Then they'll replace it in my window and then call me when its ready, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday, I don't know.

Our weather here this morning is not that cold, just below freezing, but the east coast is an ice box.

I wish they'd shoot down the Chinese spy balloon over Montana.    China isn't trustworthy.  Weather balloon--baloney!  Who would believe that from China?  "Oh, we're so sorry, its just a weather balloon drifting off course......"  Boo hoo.  Yeah ok, like anything can be believed from the mouth of China's government.  Get it out of our skies.  I guess there's another over Canada.  If the government won't take it out, hope some redneck with a deer rifle or drone does.

Or a hawk with issues.

Or a huge flock of Geese.

How about circling it in an ultralight, pilot armed with a mess of paintball ammo.

Ok, the photos.

Dot, named for the tiny white dot on his nose

Fine Stripe.  I call him this due to his extremely fine darker orange tabby markings.  I am trying to keep the cats straight in my mind out there, til I get all or most fixed.

Pirate, named for his cloudy left eye

Turtle, another torti, but those eyes have a kittenish look so I don't think she's too old.  Adult size however.

White Stripe is the unhealthiest of the five this time, suffering diarrhea.

Lastly, I took a clue from Elephant's Child and remembered yesterday morning, maybe a little too late, as it began to warm up, that I wanted to try to freeze bubbles.  I made the solution of water and dish soap as fast as I could and without anything else to dip into the solution then blow bubbles, I used a slotted spoon.  I tried blowing them out onto the grass and also the frozen car hood.

Yeah that's me reflected in the bubble, bare feet in sandals and pajamas, in under 30 degrees.

That's all for today folks.

  1. Well done you. On the cat front (as always) and on the bubbles. It is a heap of fun isn't it? How long did the bubbles last?

    1. It is fun. I think they lasted about 20 minutes is all and I"m surprised it was that long because by the time I realized it might be the last frozen morning, it was warming up.

    2. EC, what bubble mix do you use? I just mixed dish soap, corn syrup and water, but do you use a different combo?

    3. I use dishwashing liquid. And nothing else.

  2. Ice bubbles...cool. Maybe shooting down the balloon would fix two problems, the balloon and Montana.

    1. LOL Andrew, on taking out the balloon and Montana. Except I have friends who live there.

  3. Alas, I have no advice for Chinese spy balloons. I can only say that I can relate to your limitations on socializing kittens; I've decided this really isn't my strong point if I want to concentrate on TNR and fostering sick kitten for my local shelter, I can do a few here an there but passing along to others is usually my best strategy. Here's to the lion-tamers who have time and those skills!

    1. There are some great kitten tamers out there. You have to be set up right and have visitors to do it well. Long ago, in another town where I lived, in another time when city buses allowed pets, I took the wild kittens, in harness on city bus rides to be petted by tons of people. It worked so well.

  5. I wonder about why they don't shoot the Chinese balloon. I don't buy the story it might hit someone. We got the capability to blow it to smithereens. I don't want to come across as conspiracy nut. But I wonder if it has some type of virus on it. Or something.

  6. Oh, those bubbles are so cool. I'm gonna have to try them, too. I agree. China is not to be believed!

    1. Yeah, who knows what they're doing with that balloon. We do need to say "NO" to them, and take it out. It's pathetic we haven't done so already. I enjoyed the bubbles. Next freezing night, I'll be ready.

  7. Those bubbles are really neat, and you took great photos. Thank you for sharing. And with all that you accomplish, please don't feel guilty about not having energy for kitten socializing. Wish I could help with that. ~grin~ On a creative note, another blogger likes to fill balloons with colored water. Once they freeze she pops the balloon for another neat visual. Best wishes!
