Monsoon Madness

Ha!  Not a good title.   With the monsoon that hit yesterday--warmish pouring rain, there was no madness here, only an easy maybe even boring day.

I think Astoria got almost 4 inches of rain yesterday.  I don't know the totals here, maybe an inch and a half?  Not that much, really, here.  Enough though.  More to come, as another front moves in this evening and tomorrow, but mixed with cold air off Alaska, meaning snow levels drop back down and so do temps.

Just the winter usual.  Wet and gray, sometimes really cold too.

But check this out, my gutter corner.  First repair, with replacement of corner, had failed.  Then I got some liquid rubber and painted over every seam on that corner.  Now......in pouring rain.....

Of the three corners I tried to fix, two now do not leak, which is good I think.

In winter, cats who normally spend their time in the cat yard and garage cat room off the cat yard, try to come inside.  This creates ruffled feathers and tiffs.  "You can't sleep there, that's my favorite spot" sort of tiffs.   It will settle down.

The number of cats here has plummeted as old age continues to take my friends.  Buffy or Shady will be next I fear.  Buffy is just really really old.  Shady too. Sam, who now is over 16 somewhere, still seems extremely healthy.  He has that darkened eye, which I hope isn't melanoma.  He has this little knob beside one eye on his nose bridge.  He's had it all his life that I've known him.  But its a little bigger now and then two years ago, the sudden change in color in his right eye.   Worry wart me.  I know they can't live forever.

Buffy has mats because she no longer grooms but I'm afraid to shave them off, since she's still a wild thing and does not like even petted.  My big fear is the stress of it would send her into a fatal seizure or heart event.  For years now, she will have a seizure if she panics, like if she catches a claw in something and is trying to pull it free.

I remember when Misty took to laying on the floor, my mosquito cat, always flitting about on the peripheal.  I thought it was mats in her fur making her uncomfortable.  They pull at a cats hair and it is just painful to have them.  So I netted her and took her into the bathroom to shave a big mat off.  I quickly realized she was having heart troubles and the shaving was making her worse.  She died within hours.   Guilt set in over that and fear of shaving mats off the older ferals.

So I just did nothing much yesterday, except lots of cleaning, which I do everyday.  I don't mind the cleaning.  You can't stay depressed when you have to get up and clean every morning.  I just don't have time to wallow in self pity like I could if I didn't have litter boxes to clean and floors to mop.

After I got the cleaning done and other chores it was late afternoon and I went to take a nap but I always read first.....and the cats were climbing on me.

Slinko, my guard dog.  But he has learned over the years.  Look!  His claws aren't actually digging into my skin this time.  He's asking, not demanding, for attention this time. Good boy, Slinko.

Ah...my friend Slinko

I suppose I should get something done useful today.  Like what?

Well....how about a batch of cat treats?

They're supposed to be made in a tiny muffin pan but oh well.   Tik tok recipe. Tuna, egg, cheese and flour.  Humans and cats can enjoy.  I forgot them a couple minutes too long so they're extra crispy.

  1. Even your quiet days are productive. Love the cat treats - and am sure that the cats do too. Yay for Slinko learning to keep his claws to himself.

    1. They're actually just tiny tuna cakes. They love them. So do I.

  2. Our cats don't groom much any more and they have mats. We try to brush them regularly, and that helps some, but they still get them. I'm just glad that they aren't long-haired cats. I love the picture with you and Slinko. Your expression shows how much you like your cats.

    1. Buffy is short hair too. My OCD nature wants to shave those off though. I have to resist.

    1. He's really my only lap cat left. Some of the others will sleep beside me or on me but only Slinko wants to be on my lap.
