Record Rain Month

We might break the record for highest amount of rain in Oregon for April since recording started, the news said this morning.

We have another week left of April, most of the days with rain forecast, although today we may not get measurable rain.   The news station touting the record breaking possibility is in Portland.  We never hear much about the rest of the state.  So the records they refer to are there, in Portland.  Here its been wetter, but I don't know how we stand here on rain compared to other April's.  I'd guess way ahead of the game.  Here's me participating in imaginery spring.

We do have a tiny local paper but you have to pay to read it online.  I did subscribe to the e edition awhile, but then they stopped sending the daily link, and their customer service is really terrible.  I could not get through on the phone. Then, when they tried to continue my subscription past the months I'd bought, although five of those months were useless, I threw a fit and finally got it cancelled so they wouldn't charge me, but it took many attempts to get through.   I won't sucker for that again.  Anyhow, its difficult to hear of anything going on locally.  In the dark, I am, regarding local area news.

Cat sitting again.  Not for much longer.   I wasn't going to do it, since I've gotten somewhat bitter over the asks on the block, without any return on the help.  I agreed to it though awhile back.

You need the sound on for the video above, of myself and Lucy, the neighbors cat, watching Gigi, the garage girl, but owned by the people behind me, through the blinds.

I have a few spots Monday but the people who feed the cats will trap for themselves.  I will just transport Monday.   Once again, the Harrisburg vet student will try to catch cats.  She has four of the five appointments dedicated to the trailer park hordes there.  After that, I have ten spots for all of May, then no more for the summer and I'm happy about that.

Speaking of Harrisburg, a couple weeks ago, someone found a homemade casket by a tree in the Harrisburg cemetery.  It contained a corpse.  The sheriff's department did finally ID the man but really know nothing about him, except his last known residence was Eugene.   He was in his 50's and quite over weight is all I heard and died of natural causes.  Who made the wood box he was found in?  Nobody knows and maybe never will.

I don't go to the park anymore.  Gas prices make it too expensive.  Instead I provide cat food to another person who lives near the park and she takes care of anybody left.  And there seem to be only two left of the park cats now.  TC has vanished.  Paws vanished a year ago.   Only Cumi, who is only seen occasionally, and Rocky, remain.  I'm thankful I got the teenagers out of there last fall.  They include the intrepid Little Dragon, who has a ball here with Smudge.  I don't miss going there at all.

Well it may not rain today which means I better try to mow the lawn because next week it may rain every single day.

  1. Quite a lot of Eastern Australia has smashed rain records this year. And more is predicted. And the flood clean up continues.
I am glad to hear that the cat feeders will trap for themselves.
Stay as dry as you can. And thanks for the videos.

Local newspapers have all but disappeared here in any form and local democracy and accountability is all the worse for it.

    1. Journalism is a part of the checks and balances that make people stay honest, or be exposed so it is sad the small newspapers are vanishing.

  6. I was sure I had commented - but it has disappeared. We have had record rain months on a lot of the East Coast of Australia this year. And a heap of flooding. I hope yours doesn't continue.

    1. I found it! I didn't know you were also experiencing lots of rain. And flooding.

  7. I like the photo of the sleeping tabby.

I knew the rains had been heavy, but I didn't know we set a record, although with the overall drought conditions, it's good that we have.

I so wish I could get out to mow, but I'm still supposed to be taking it easy.

    1. That's the neighbors cat. Am cat sitting. Are you feeling any better by now? I finally got my front and back lawn mowed yesterday.

    2. "Are you feeling any better by now?"

Yes, I no longer have to put cloths in my underwear to catch the blood, and on Thursday, I can start lifting weights over ten pounds. I'm still very tired, though, and it still hurts to pee. I'm also getting out of breath while doing things that shouldn't make me winded, and I'm having to be careful when I bend over because I feel faint when I stand up. I can't imagine that the surgery is causing these things, so I'll be seeing a doctor soon. I used to work with asbestos on occasion, and it crosses my mind that my problem might be related to that.

  8. I wish you all the best in these difficult times. ~hugs~ I mowed the front lawn before today's rainfall. :D That was lucky, as I didn't follow the weather prediction.

    1. Oh good for you, dancing between the rain storms with the lawn mower. I got mine done yesterday and good thing--pouring again today and will be for the next week at least. I feel smug about getting it done yesterday.

The 4th

Happy the 4th is over.   It's the fireworks.   They terrify some of my cats.  Not the old deaf ones.   Gigi hid under the cat stairs in...
