Escape to the Lake

Looking west towards Sweet Home.

When all else fails, go to the lake.   The weather today was to be cool with drizzle.  Yesterday, I decided to take advantage of the few days left before the lake level drops to enjoy the water.

Also, news had come from the Cascadia colony that upset me.  The people on one side said they really owned the land now and were evicting the couples on the other side.  Yesterday they were going to court.  I had no idea this was going on, underneath all the cats needing helped, and realized I probably would not be able to get back onto the property for some time, to catch the rest.  Also, to hear people will lose their only home and have nothing to begin with, upsets me terribly.  I couldn't help think about where they would go and how they would live.  I don't know if they have a working vehicle, or could find a way to pull out that camp trailer they were in, but where would they put it if they could anyhow.

These are things I can't do a thing about.   But they upset me and I wound up in a bad mood myself.  Finally, I just went to the lake.

Poison Oak climbing the cliff rocks near the 2nd bridge.  PO is all over banks around the lake and up the rivers.

I remained at the lake until nearly 5:00 then drove on home.  My friend from Lacomb had left me some treats from her yard including grapes and some chocolate candy.   I scarfed the candy, then the grapes.  She'd left me three bags of cans too, to help me pay my water bill.  I braved the Bottle Drop to return one of the bags.  The take on just one bag was $16.50.  I got totally enthused during the process about collecting cans for a better life for myself.  You know, to get some extras going, like for the house or actually save up for a better car.

  1. I am so glad that you have the lake as solace and respite.
And, as a PS, I wear very similar sandals to those. Live in them in the warmer months.

    1. Those sandals in the photo are water sandals and the ones that melted on the day it was 116 in Salem and I was at my friends little pool. I finally got them stuck back together with a different sort of glue.

  3. I had to Google what a Bottle Drop was. There's no bottle deposit in my area, and therefore no need to turn them back in.

    1. The deposit used to be 5 cents, now its 10 cents. The bottle return started long time ago in Oregon to try to get our beaches free of some of the trash left by little babies who can't clean up after themselves. Sorry had to be sarcastic about litter bugs.

    2. Now I understand the labels on some bottles regarding different states' return policies. That is some incentive! I'm glad you have such a friend.

    1. Yes, a friend whom I never see, a ghost sort of. She has left things twice at my backdoor. I helped her get a couple dozen cats fixed last year. Now, she's left me things twice!
