The Neighbors Cat

My yard is considered fair game to a host of neighbor cats.

I don't mind.  Not really.  Not that I don't have a lot of cats to care for already, in the house and cat yard.

If the area cats need a refuge, a playground, then so be it.   Let it be my yard.

Fritter is one of those cats.  A lady I know who lives in the apartments behind the end of the cul de sac finally told me who he was and that his owner is not good to him.  He's on his own most of the time.  He is "owned" by one of the apartment residents.

He not only frequents my yard but is well known to the folks behind me too, who call him Devil cat since he tends to fight with their cats.   Fritter is a nice cat though, just wants somewhere he can be himself and not run off.  The folks right at the end have kids who are very sweet to him too and sometimes sit with him.

The people behind me have four cats and three of them are in my yard a lot.  Gigi (they call her Butters) practically lives in my garage.  Fluffybutt, the Siamese boy I got neutered, is their cat too and often here.  Next to them facing the other street, one down, those folks have two brothers, one black and white, one gray and white, who also frequent my yard.   I don't care.

Fritter likes to shade out under the Butterfly bush.  But this year a pair of Scrub Jays nested nearby, behind the neighbor next to me's house, in their arborvita.  So if he or Gigi or any of the others even think about seeking shade under the Butterfly Bush, they get dive bombed by the jays.  Gigi has her own shade spot beneath the Forsythia out front.  The jays leave her be there and in fact think that's a good place for her--out front and not out back by their Butterfly Bush.

Bird drama, cat drama, I can't escape drama it seems.

  1. You have an interesting habitat for many creatures in your backyard. It sounds fun to watch. My son's apartment complex has a cat that seems to belong to everyone and no one. However, he is well treated by all and has various food dishes to choose from. And he's been fixed, or at least his ear tip would suggest that.

    1. Nice so many take care of that one cat. I always like hearing that.

  2. A near neighbour's cats spend a lot of time in our yard too. Which sends Jazz into a frenzy.
I feel for the cats. They are outside whatever the weather and I can't help wishing that the neighbour had safe (and warm or cool) spots for them in their own yard.

    1. Same with four of the six neighbor cats who frequent my yard---always out, even in horrendouse weather. That's why I put a cat door in my garage. What a softie I am.

    1. I bet it is. Any field. We have so few left around here. All developed. Except the grass seed fields that surround the town, but no life allowed in those and anything in those fields when harvest comes gets chopped up horribly by the windrowers.
