The Dogmobile

I thought my car was distinctly marked as the Catmobile.

If not outwardly, certainly by scent.

Yesterday, at the park, I arrive and see a dog in the parking lot.  A little dog.

I was careful parking, not wanting to hit the little thing.

But after I parked I couldn't see the dog in any of my mirrors.  Oh no, I thought.  I get out of the car, peer under it, walk around it, walk around the other car next to me, looking.

Nowhere!

I go back to my car, perplexed.  I'd left the door open.  I plop down in my car seat, and.....there's the dog, in the back of my car.  She'd hopped in, even made herself comfortable by then, curling up on my jacket in the back.

I walk around awhile, as the dog had settled in and seemed entirely happy curled up in my car on my jacket, that now smells like dog.   I look for anyone who might be looking for their dog.  I talk to some park workers but they don't know the dog.  I post her on lost and found pets from my phone.   And then, from a distance, I see someone on the river trail and hurry back down that way.

Yeah, she's looking for her dog.  They'd been fishing down the trail and Bella the dog took off.  I said I posted her on lost and found pets.  The  woman said "not the first time she's been on there".  Bella was happy to see her people.

And that was that.

The Catmobile, in recent months, has had two wayward dogs jump in and make themselves at home.  And a rabbit too.   Should I rename?  Maybe the Animal Housemobile?
