I'm trying to pare down the Knox Butte colony. I've gotten four, all boys out of there already, to two barn homes. The last barn home included tree houses for the cats and was down on the south coast. Shasta and Cortez were the lucky boys who went there. This time it was Etna and Denali I recaught out there, quickly too, because for once, they hadn't fed them before I came.
There are still some unfixed ones showing at the colony but the massive number of people in and out disturb trapping so badly I'm lucky I recaught the two already fixed ones.
I had been sure Etna was a little gray tabby on white girl, but when I requested a repeat on records to send to the new owners, on the clinic records Etna was down as a boy. Hmmm.
How did I mess that up? I remember a comment, made by clinic staff however, when I picked up that group, something about how the name Etna didn't fit for a boy. So I probably forget to change her to him in my own records.
Young boys like that, going together, they often tame down, so its fine. Boys retrap far easier than girls, too. Six boys out of there now will make a difference.
So far, Flame, Hoodsie, Cortez, Shasta, Etna and Denali have moved on.
These are really sweet people who took on Etna and Denali. I loved them instantly and think they're pretty darn nice. Great set up too for acclimation. They're going to love it there!
Denali, a little boy, fixed in January, now has moved on with Etna. |

My finger is much better after I took out the stitches. I used nail scissors to do it. Sure I'm right handed and had to do it with my left hand and reading glasses but I got it done. It really helped to get those out. I'm back to having two useful hands again.
I talked to the sisters whose multitudes of cats I've been taking to be fixed. There are at least six more. Unclear how many surviving kittens there are of six litters born. Not very many I don't think. They did take the little orange and white female who was too ill to be fixed two weeks ago, to the vet. They were happy to tell me she's well now, feisty and happy, after ten days on antibiotics. I was happy to hear it. They took another cat, fixed long ago by some other group, to the emergency clinic too when she got pneumonia. Several hundred dollars later and she didn't survive. But I'm happy they are taking better care of them. I hope to pick up two more Sunday, two of the moms now done with nursing, to be fixed. I've already got a Lebanon boy, a Waterloo girl, and a Sweet Home girl going. I hope an Albany couple catches a female they've been after too.
Glad your finger is getting better.
ReplyDeleteAnd very glad to hear os a new (and much better) home for some of the cats. Yay you. And Yay the placement barns.
It was a great place for these last pair.
DeleteWhat a beautiful picture of Etna.
ReplyDeleteI am still sure Etna is a girl, although she did not give me opportunity to look. I'm betting the records are wrong.
