Waiting on a Train

We spend a lot of time waiting on trains where I live.   Queen street, a major thoroughfare, includes an intersection owned by the railroads.   They like to stop traffic for long periods many times a day while they build trains.  Back and forth they go.   Adding cars, dropping cars and flaunting traffic who wait and wait, then often turn around and go try to find a way around.

This is life here.  Carry a book.

  1. Oh, that must stink. We have lots of tracks around but seldom get stuck by them where we reside. Thanks for all the great comments on my posts. Reading your words always makes me happy. I just learned that Central Oregon is the best place to view woodpeckers, and the state boasts 11 our of the country's 23 (!) total species. As for growing chard, we had little success trying to start from seed, and these bought from a nursery are in the EarthBox planting system I mentioned. They're going nuts! Sorry about the invasive mustard. I'm not sure how green my thumb is. ~shakes head~ But the prickly pear cactus (an actual Ohio native!) is becoming a problem trying to take over one of my flower beds where I was working this morning. Oh, and ants invaded our kitchen this spring until we put out poisoned bait. But the little ones outside today receded after I hosed down the sidewalk. Their way of life is alien, but yes, the cold cruelty far too possible in humans. Be well!

  2. I almost always have a book with me. And rarely regret it. No trains nearby though. It is roadworks here. Never ending roadworks.

It was once a desirable think to have a train running through the middle of towns. I remember when we were on the river cruise in Germany, we warned in one town to allow for a lot of time to return to the ship because of a train level crossing. Sure enough, the booms came down, and it was ten minutes before the train arrived. Here it might be a minute or so.

    1. These are freight trains and they build trains right in the street. It's quite frustrating, the issue of trains blocking streets in town, but what can one do? Nothing. Except read a book, which is what I do.
