    1. Hope not, Andrew. I'm really happy right now, though. It's so nice to have heat again.

  3. Hi Strayer,

First of all, I'm glad to hear that you have heat, and sorry to be a "fair weather friend" but I'm totally in over my head trying to trap some feral cats in my backyard and wonder if you might have any advice for me.

Long story short, there are 4 cats, and I've gotten all but one. Basically he tried to follow another cat into the trap and when the door slammed shut it caught the other cat and slammed right in his face scaring the pants off of him. Now he's terrified of the trap and won't go near it - I tried for 3 hours.

Anyhow, he's an adolescent kitten (6-8 months old) and he's never been on his own before and I'm worried sick. He has several heated shelters outside to choose from, so I hope he'll be OK, but I just don't know what to do. As you know, I'm really not emotionally cut out for this sort of thing and I'm a total mess.

The spay/neuter clinic isn't until Saturday, so I have all day tomorrow to try to catch him, but I wonder if you have any advice for me. If you want the whole long gory story it's here:

    1. Well, you might try sprinkling the area with catnip. Get him high, heat tuna to piping hot, as bait, put a bit dry food on a paper plate out front of the trap, piping hot tuna inside, for bait, nice flat dish, so it clearly visible. Try using something in the area on top of the trap, rather than a towel or other cage cover. Spray it with catnip spray. (these are just tips) Or, quickly make a drop trap. You can get that plastic fencing stuff cheap at Home Depot. Or use wire, on a frame. The trickiest part is the slide up door to transfer him into a regular trap. I liked my old drop trap best with the transfer door on the front edge. Here's how to make one quickly. http://droptrapdesign.blogspot.com/2005/10/build-your-own.html
