The FBI is asking the public for help in finding these men, photographed by a security worker at the Detroit Dam. Apparently the nine men were photographing the dam and access roads. This might be very very important to locate these people.
Spread the word.
When I posted about this before, a lot of people e-mailed making jokes about why in the world terrorists would target struggling rural Oregon, especially a remote dam like Detroit or Foster. If Foster failed it would likely flood Lebanon and lot of grass fields, but not much else. And Detroit is so far out, I don't know exactly where that water would go. Lebanon and this area in general is full of poor people and grass seed fields. Destroying poor people's homes or grass seed farms would scarcely make any point at all, even to the United States.
But it is weird to think there might be members of a terror cell living in the mid valley here. Very unsettling. I hope the FBI gets to the bottom of this.

perhaps they were photographing it not to bomb it but to build there - to set up a safehouse type thing or something - from where they can coordinate their dirty deeds. Maybe they were thinking that those access roads if blocked somehow could trap people. who knows? I sure hope they find them and find out!
ReplyDeleteYeah, who knows, and maybe they were tourists. It could be. Maybe they were travelling visiting engineers photographing dams to see how we Americans build things. I don't know. It's still hard for me to think of people out there actively plotting to kill other people. What a senseless use of a life.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't believe it. I also think anyone actually planning a terrorist incident probably works for the CIA anyway, so you'll never hear about them.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of curious about how the person who reported it knew they were speaking Arabic. Does that person know the difference between languages when they hear them? Could it have been a group of spanish speaking people? They would have had to be pretty close to them to distinguish which language they were speaking.
ReplyDeleteI would wonder the same thing, Diane, and would wonder if it wasn't a group of guys on break from a nearby farm, Spanish speakers. I wouldn't know Arabic from many other languages, if I was "overhearing" it, especially from a distance in a position of suspicion. They could have been recently recruited trucked in migrant laborers, taking photos of their new temp home area. Something like that.
