Humane Society of the United States Fleecing People, Getting Themselves Rich

Please click the post title to go to an article about HSUS and what they don't do. And how much they haul in from donations, and what that money isn't used for. They have 41 employees making over 100,000. $.26 of every donated dollar goes right back into making them more money. Of the millions upon millions they raked in last year, they made only 4 million in grants for animals and most of that was to fund a CA initiative on farm animals.

Reject HSUS. They do nothing locally to help animals. Want to help animals, then donate to Poppa Inc. by clicking here and that money will get used to fix Oregon animals, because nobody gets paid at Poppa Inc.

I think of myself and so many others out there struggling on zero budgets to save lives and then I think of the overpaid people at HSUS, recruiting money in emotional ads and letters that could be used to help animals at local levels and it is an abomination. Please write to them and tell them so.

  1. this is just horrible! I read some of their other articles, too...its getting to where you don't know who to donate to! Even if they have to disclose where the money goes to, its usually in teensy eensy print at the bottom of the requests they mail out. I get them from every animal rescue place in the world, every week - the photos are heartbreaking - so i toss them now without looking at them. I can't. Especially since i don't know who to trust. At this point, my charitable donations are limited to Baltimore Animal Rescue Center (BARC); cat rescue of Maryland (crom), and the North Shore Animal League. And Jody...of course...

  2. It's 41 workers who make over $100,000.

I was featured on their cover 34 years ago or so after the kids in my class raised money to help a homeless dog that had been hanging around the school.

  3. Ooops, will correct that. You were famous then, Snow? Back then?

  4. Yes, Jeanne, my cats love that Fancy Feast you send. They now know what the box means, when it comes, and they wish they had opposable thumbs and could use box cutters. It would make things quicker in getting that box ripped open.

  5. Timetravel, have you checked out the BBB site?

Strayer, actually the dog was on the cover. I was just the teacher who rallied the kids to help the dog.

  6. They are 32? or 34? or 100? hahaha - smart cats! Eventually they will figure out how to get the box open - now I know why you can't take in more cats - all those claws would rip the box open in an instant! plus the cans.....
The two maryland based org. i give to are legit - esp. crom - they get ferals/ strays fixed for twenty bucks at the local spca - plus shots, flea rx, and anything else that ails them. twenty bucks! can you believe that? to me, thats worth the donations!

  7. That still makes you famous, Snow. Yup, it does. I think.

Jeanne, I think of the tear jerker ads HSUS runs and I equate them with late night evangelists stealing money from old people, with their poignant tearful Biblical money demands.

  8. Let's all call them up on Monday, and ask for loans. I know I could certainly use the delivery of a truckload of cat food, to dole out to the homeless campers, so those cats can eat. I know maybe it would cut too far into their 85 million dollar budget or whatever it is. Oh wait, the budget for hands on animal care grants is $400,000 I think, about what 4 of the 41 employees get who make over a hundred grand. What am I thinking, to suggest we call and request help for actual animals. I am just too arrogant and self serving. Darn it. I will call them up then and apologize for even thinking how outrageous what they are doing is, to the likes of the teensy shadow people out there giving their all like fools, when the likes of HSUS are getting rich off doing nothing.

  9. I love your idea - all of us callingg and begging for help for Jody Harmon: Feral Cats, Inc. or whatever you want to call your one woman organization....we tell them volunteer donations have slacked recently due to extra giving to Haiti and the recent holiday backlash financially .....so we have kittens and cats who need food, shelter, and fixing....esp. the homeless camp cats - their colony is overseen by...homeless people! who have no income! Wow - can you imagine getting a grant for that colony to ensure those cats are always sheltered and fed? and any newbies fixed immediately? Think I'll give them a call monday....and I'll be sure to mention how you need food and such just to trap cats throughout the albany and connecting areas and money towards their getting fixed.

thanks snow i'll check it out!
