Auntie Annie Goes To West Linn

Auntie Annie went to West Linn yesterday, to a little No Kill shelter called PAWS. I've always admired the woman who runs that place. She is so serene and peaceful to be around. Auntie went into a cage, but only until she asks to get out, Sharon said. Then, when she indicates she is ready, they'll open the cage and for awhile, she can return to it, if she feels stressed. It's a free roam shelter.

I felt bad leaving her there, but they have volunteers in every day and she will actually get a whole lot more attention there than she got here. And she loves attention. Auntie is an absolutely delightful wonderful cat. She will get a new name. At that shelter, they name all the cats after famous people. It's very funny!

I hope she gets a home with people who will love her and be wonderful to her.

I returned Bruiser this morning, the black tux male from Scravel who turned out to also be tame. He is one huge lovable big guy. I hated taking him back up there, but someone is feeding him very well. He's huge, rather fat to be honest.

Tomorrow, I will return the two white females. Today, hopefully, I will take Suzy and Hulks to their new barn home. I making some progress here, at least.

I also have made slight strides in the goals I made for improving the place. I have been laying vinyl floor tiles, when I am able to get another box and now I have enough to finish the floor. I am close to done with that. I have the blinds now, ready to install on the big front window, repacing the vertical blinds, that you can never really see through. My third goal, that of painting, will be next to accomplish.

The dryer part should arrive today, unless it came through Seattle, which it likely did. I5 is closed north of Portland due to flooding. HIghway 101 on the coast also has been closed due to flooding and landslides. No freight from the north is getting through. So my dryer part's arrival may be delayed. Once I get that, I will be thrilled, actually, happier than a clam.

Four cats went up to be fixed today. Two males and two females. Three of the four are kittens from the Scravel Scramblers colony I worked last fall. I was going to take them to be fixed at the kitten fixing clinic, but never got up there with them, due to weather issues and now they are big enough to be done at Countryside.

The fourth cat, the other female, is a Siamese from Albany, owned and very pretty, but the owners lack any money right now, to get it done. They are responsible, laid off, and don't want her to get pregnant.

I've been revaccinating the five kittens left from the deceased old woman situation. From 11 cats, nine kittens and two adults, taken in from that situation, I'm down to five left here. It's their time for a booster. Because they are on the wild side, I don't chase them around. I net them. Then I also update their worming, check their ears, trim their nails, and pet them.

Button and Tweetie, the girls, really like to be petted and held now, after I net them to do it, which they don't seem to mind. Kimo and Grasshopper too are now mildly tame. Only beautiful Blizz holds out--the lynx point Siamese. So all five of these kittens will soon be house cat material. Won't be long at all.

  1. That's great news all around! I hope things start getting better for you soon. Glad to hear the dryer will be fixed, too. K

  2. Yes, Kay, I knew you didn't have e-mail until today. Keni's husband took apart the dryer and almost instantly found the problem, the glider bracket, that holds up the cylinder and guides it, in the front, one of two brackets, at 90 degree angles, is flopping at the corner, needs replaced. No, it should not have worn out so quickly, but it did, and is cheap to replace and I hope, easy to reinstall it all back together and have it just fine, for about $15.

  3. SO glad to hear the dryer might be okay. Yay. Keni is wonderful for supporting you and getting her husband to help...her husband too, of course, is wonderful, but I'm betting she is the one who's following your blog and got him to help. I bet she'd love a big public thanks. As they say, reprimand in private (no surer way to make people never contact you again than criticism in public!) and commend in public (which makes them feel really good, even if they did not fufill all expectations :))

Strikes!

No, not the kind of strikes a pitcher throws.  Labor strikes are going on. In Albany, its the teachers on strike against the Greater Albany ...
