Being a diehard, I was out checking the trap at 11:00 p.m., then 1:00 a.m., after which I fell asleep on my bed in my clothes, having set the alarm for 5:00 a.m. I was after the last kitten, over at the deceased womans' trailer, the Siamese kitten.
I'm sure the alarm went off at 5:00 a.m., but I didn't wake up until 6:00 a.m. Being already dressed, (a convenience of falling asleep in one's clothes), I just went out, got in my car, and drove over to the trailer park.
I could hear the kitten's yowls the moment I opened the door of my car to step out into the darkness and lightly falling snow.
I'd set two traps, one near their food dishes on the cover porch area and one in the carport. The kitten was in the trap nearest the food dishes.
I put the kitten in my car, along with the empty trap and came home. There are still four adults there, but I haven't seen them in awhile. I'll try for them later this week most likely. I have to check to be sure the barn home is still open for those adults first.
At least all the kittens are out of the weather. The Siamese was greeted by his little friends who even tried to figure out how to open the trap, once it was in the bedroom with the rest, to break him out.
A beauty!
ReplyDeleteYou are such an expert cat trapper..I have been wondering, what kind of cat food you use for bait? Also, when you give them dewormer, do you crush the tablet and put in their food? thanks. K
I had to laugh when I read his little friend tried to mount a jail break. Speedy does that if one of his sisters is in a carrier ready to go to the vet. It's a good thing it takes a lot of force to open it or we'd be constantly re-loading the carrier.~Donna in Wisconsin
ReplyDeleteACtually, for the feral kittens, I just scruff them, cover the pill in butter, have a syringe full of water, if not tuna juice ready, use the thumb on the hand scruffing the kitten, at the corner of the mouth, to get it open, drop the pill in the back, immediately begin slowly administering water or tuna juice by syringe. A vet in Corvallis told me every single pill given a cat should be followed by a syringe of water. The burn time can be up to 30 seconds of travel, for the pill to reach the stomach and that can burn the sides of the esophogus, so following any pill given with a syringe full of water is necessary.
ReplyDeleteThey were so worried about their little buddy, Zippy. Cats are very social and very family oriented and it is only the abnormal cat who is a loner or wants to be an only cat. Lots of myths out there.
