Street Fireworks

I went out very briefly last night to see if I could get some photos of street fireworks, being set off in several places on every block. Across the street, that family was setting them off and next to them, they were. The other direction, many households were setting off fireworks. Most of the people were hispanics and did not speak English, although I thought some did and asked if I could take photos and thought I got an ok.

Then one woman took off and came back with someone who spoke English who said the hispanics wanted to know why I was taking photos and if I worked for the police and was turning in people for setting off fireworks.

I told her to tell the nonEnglish speakers I just thought the fireworks were pretty is all. Then I came home. I passed the old man next door making a big show of storming around and shining a flashlight on his roof to see if it was on fire yet from somebody's fireworks, although the only ones being shot around there, not even close to him, were ones that didn't shoot anything up more than ten feet. I fell asleep on my couch.

I've been having trouble with the camera eating batteries. Twenty photos and the batteries are dead, despite setting the camera to the next to lowest size for shots. The rechargable batteries I put in were new. I've only charged them once before and they said they're specifically for digital cameras, "long lasting", even states the number of photos they'll shoot per charge, in the hundreds. Not twenty. So something is up.

  1. my kodak started going through the charge on its factory-included rehargeable batteries really fast. Bought some new rechargeable kodak batteries and they last much longer. My new camera chewed through four batteries in six hours yesterday. I don't know whats up with batteries.

  2. The batteries built in some places, maybe some plants, are crap, that's what's going on. They say they are rechargable but don't hold charges. Crappily built, is the thing. I'm searching for a decent brand built in a plant with some quality control. When I find this product, I'll let you know which one it is and we can all switch to a brand made to the specifications they claim they are made to.

  3. If those fireworks had been set off here it would have meant many arrests and lots of fines. And then deportation most likely. We only had a few fire crackers go off in the neighborhood then some kid blew off a toe or two and that ended that.~Donna

  4. Can I ask you how do you pay for all these kitties to be spayed? I want to help feral cats but have no money. Thanks for all you do!

  5. Zippy, your comments are so colorful and so true. If there had been illegal fireworks arrests in Albany, OR, one half the town at least would have been under arrest and at least half of those, would then have faced deportation. We haven't the budget here for even a decent park, so you can imagine the jail space issues. So, every street was lined in multiple people blowing off illegal fireworks. That's Albany, OR.

  6. I must add this sarcastic comment. A lot of these same people, blowing off extremely expensive fireworks, are the same people I know of, who claimed to not have the money to get their own cat fixed. How do you like that?
