The 91st cat of the BS is dead. She was the last cat unfixed there. For now, that is. She's dead. She had protruded her tongue for several months, the colony caretaker said. That means nothing good. In her case, every tooth was rotted with the roots encased in pus. She had either some bacteria ravaging her mouth, calici virus, or she had FIV. She was also older, seven or more, having two or more litters per year. All those years of excessive breeding wore her out and her ability to fight off anything. The curse of a female without choice.
I asked of course how much it would cost to make her all better. There was a silence on the other end of the line. Then the vet tech said, "Well, I will ask then." She came back on the line and told me there really was nothing that could be done, even if the teeth were all pulled. Then she'd have to be on antibiotics a long time and she's feral and she would need to eat special food, and even then, if she had FIV or some other severe disease, like leukemia, she wouldn't make it, because it was too advanced. I knew, but....I just want for happy endings. I need them. I love them.
Happy endings are my drug of choice.
Her struggles and pain ended today. I couldn't pick her up, even, just wasn't emotionally capable. The colony caretakers are picking her body up.
The vets and staff at Countryside are so nice to me. They try to cheer me up, when one doesn't make it, and are just very good to me.
The four Monmouth kittens were fixed today. They are gorgeous kittens.
And Hope, the one eyed brown tabby tux, is integrated into the household now. There are occasionally a few little quarrels here and there, but she loves other cats and is already fitting in well.
Tomorrow I'll be after some Millersburg cats. Some really nice people care for them.
I am a Cat Woman. My self-appointed mission in life is to save the feline world! To accomplish this mission, I get cats fixed. Perhaps my mission might be slightly delusional. This blog is a mishmash of wishful thinking, rants, experiences as I remember them and of course, cat stories and cat photos. I have a nonprofit now, to help keep the cats here cared for and to fix community cats. Happy Cat Club formed in 2015. Currently, we are on a mission to fix 10,000 cats.
