Off to Portland this morning early. I left at 7:00 a.m. since my check in time for the six cats I was taking to the FCCO was at 8:30 a.m. I arrived right on time, for once.
It's tough to time it right. I never know what the traffic congestion issue will be on any given day.
If I were to go road limit speed the whole way, without congestion stop and go areas, it would take one hour.
We caught them at the Brownsville colony. There were two we didn't catch that could have gone. And there were two who couldn't go because they just had kittens. So we did ok, considering. Also I was in the midst of exhaustion daze.
I knew it would catch up with me, all this driving back and forth to clinics, trapping, also trying to keep up on trap cleaning, laundry and care of my cats. It was a little optimistic of me to think I would not burn out and burn out I did. Last night I hit a wall and didn't think I'd actually wake up this morning to my alarm to get up to Portland on time.
After I checked in the cats, I went to the rest area and slept in the back of my car over two hours. Probably closer to three hours. I read a book sitting legs stretched out in the back on the board the cats in traps sit atop, on the way to and from clinics.
I turned off my phone sound because I was getting blasted with texts and messages from people wanting me to fix their cats. I need to redo my message to reflect that HCC will close June 1 for the summer. I still often take on small projects but not for the general public. The general public can find another way during the summer. Experience personal responsibility first hand maybe. I'd love that if it would happen. There's no way I can get even all the unfixed cats fixed in one small town, let alone the entire county. We have too many people around here who don't fix their pets then want others to pay for it to be done. Unfixed house pets result in feral colonies when the a-holes who didn't fix them abandon their pets or let them have kittens that go wild.
Anyhow, I"m back home and going to bed early. Here are photos of the six Brownsville cats who were fixed. There are no names for them since they were fixed at FCCO. They don't require names, nor do I ever see their records. Their records are emailed to the cat's caregiver.
I hope you woke from your long nap somewhat refreshed.
ReplyDeleteSo, another six fixed. Well done.
Yes I did. The nap at the rest area did the trick for me. This morning I'm about to return the six. Thanks Andrew. Preventing lots of unwanted kittens@!
DeleteHUGE thanks.
ReplyDeleteI do hope that as I am typing this you are asleep. Sound asleep.
I see you posted the comment while I indeed was sound asleep.
DeleteI often wonder how you keep up the pace that you do. Hope you have a good weekend with lots of sleep and doing whatever you want.
ReplyDeleteI try hard to keep up, when I have weeks like this last one, on all the little things, as I go along, knowing at some point I won't be able to keep up. Now I've only got two cats to catch tomorrow and then nothing til end of week, so I have almost a week of almost off time. That doesn't sound that good in writing, lol.
DeleteGet some sleep. Six more down. Good job. You can't continue to do this if you're exhausted, so take care of you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, once again. :D
