Happy Easter.
It's over with now. I went to my neighbors for afternoon dinner. Just her and I.
She'd made a lot of delicious food!
This morning early I went up to the S. Lebanon colony to catch two for tomorrow's appointments.
I'd had one of the two ladies who feeds them feed wet food in a trap for last few days. We had two cats, both sex unknown, to catch for tomorrow appointments.
One is the tabby I spotted for the first time last time I trapped up there. By now, the lady who feeds at the one house thought for sure tabby is a pregnant female. I'm not so sure.
The second is the smallest cat in the colony---now named Happy. She or he has a long white stripe on nose.
I caught the tabby first, from across the street. I had attached the remote control to the live trap, so I could pull a trigger on the sender unit in my car and close the trap. Worked perfectly. After I triggered the trap with the tabby inside, I drove over and covered the trap with a towel and put the cat and trap in my car. Then I replaced the trap with one the exact size in the exact place and retreated to my spot across the road to wait for Happy to come along.
Several other fixed cats ate in the trap then she or he came along and I triggered the trap on Happy. And that was that. About an hour is all it took.
I came home happy to be done so early. But then I got a text from the 7 Mile colony. This is the colony where they have about 30 cats in two barns. And the caretakers are over 80. I knew I'd missed some. I'd taken two large groups from there to the FCCO to be fixed--over 25 cats in all. Yesterday I got a call they'd found kittens in the goat barn. Two of them. But they thought there were more. I didn't know what to say except I don't take in kittens, try Safehaven.
I did mention to the lady of the couple, who called from the hospital, where she is residing for unknown reason, that her husband could possibly catch the mom of the kittens by putting them in a carrier with the door against the back of a set trap, then covering the back third of the trap and the carrier.
Well he actually did that and caught the mom and today, asked if I could get her fixed.
I went and got her and the two kittens. Thankfully Silverton Cat Rescue will take the two little hissies tomorrow. After I fed them warmed wet cat food they turned into my best little buddies.
Then finally it was time for Easter Dinner at my neighbors'. Like I said, she's a great cook and had gone all out even though it was just for the two of us. She sent me home with leftovers. Her roommate gets home today, from a truck drive run and will enjoy her easter cooking leftovers also, as did another couple of her friends. I napped on her couch this evening. We were going to watch a movie but then never did.
Probably because I conked out.
My backup plan because I have three adult cats and only two spay spots is with Alpine Animal Hospital and thankfully they said yes, to bring the extra over if the Salem clinic won't do an extra. Relief flooded me to get this message.
I haven't taken a photo of the mom cat yet. But here are the S. LEbanon colony two. This will make 13 fixed at this colony, with three that I know of still to go.

EXCELLENT work - and relatively easy for a change.
ReplyDeleteYes, very easy. The kittens and three adults head to Salem with me here in a little over an hour. SCR takes the kittens from there. Soon there will be no rescues with room to take kittens so this pair lucked out.
DeleteCute kittens. I hope someone is able to adopt out the kittens.
ReplyDeleteSilverton Cat Rescue will have them by this morning. They're very good with kittens, getting them fixed prior to adoption and find a lot of homes for cats and kittens. This pair are super lucky since it is tough to find a rescue with space available and kitten season has just begun.
DeleteThat's nice of your neighbour to invite you for dinner, and to make such an effort.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the liking for warmed cat food might be part of a cat's instinct for a fresh kill of prey.
I'm sure that's it Andrew, on why they love warmed food or drink, warmed to just above their body temp.
DeleteSounds like a good Easter Day, especially since you went home with leftovers.
ReplyDeleteI just ate the leftovers for lunch and they were better a day later even. It was great.
DeleteI enjoy all of your cat photos, but there's something about a kitten who is wearing part of their meal that I find irresistible.
ReplyDeleteThey were enthusiastic messy eaters for sure! Gone now, now with Silverton Cat Rescue.
DeleteI'm sure your neighbor had a nice visit.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed company for a meal. :D And good work as always, my dear.
