I have a couple days off now.
I returned the two S. Lebanon cats this morning. I'd taken the Seven Mile Lane mom cat back last night. They were going to recuperate in the goat barn and also set a couple traps beside the one she was in, to see if they might catch anymore kittens. They didn't.
Now I've loaned them kitten traps.
All three cats were fixed Monday at the Salem clinic. They had openings to fix the third one, since I had only two official reservations.
I handed off the mom cats two kittens to Silverton Cat Rescue yesterday morning.
Turned out the big tabby Sunshine is a boy and also he'd been shot with a BB gun at some point. The wound had infected. They removed the BB and gave it to me when I picked the cats up.
After I returned the two S. Lebanon colony cats this morning, I cleaned the traps they were in, then headed to a new colony in Brownsville. I'll be trapping it Thursday and Friday with a trip to FCCO Saturday.
There are quite a lot of cats, maybe 25 or so. He sent me these photos after I left the property. I'd left the two traps and some wet food for him to get them eating in the traps. They are beautiful cats, most are orange.
I won't go trap there until later on in the afternoon on Thursday. So really I had half of today off and all of tomorrow, as well as most of Thursday. How nice.
I delivered seven traps also today to a Lebanon colony. They were SCR traps and they will be transporting to the clinic once the lady catches some. Then I went and picked up 8 bags of cans a friend collected. I'll turn them in to Bottle Drop. HCC has an account there and the cans are counted and the deposit added to HCC's account. It is a great way to raise funds.
I will just say a lot of us are scared. Energy Assistance has been cut from the HHS budget for next year and also reports are saying HUD section 8 voucher money will also likely be drastically cut. Both these cuts, if they end up in the president's official budget, affect not only me but so many of the people I know or have encountered and we're all scared but trying not to be, hoping some humanity will overcome the republican party, some empathy. Energy costs have skyrocketed as have rents.
I am glad that you have at least a little time off. Love that ginger colony - and really hope it can be contained.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand your fear and hope that sanity rules. Sanity and empathy.
I'm excited to get the ginger colony under control for the man, who is in his early 70's. Yes, I would hope sanity and empathy rule, in the end. And courage. So many of the folks I help are supporters of the current admin. I just keep my mouth shut and my head down and do the work because I don't care. They still need the help and the cats still need fixed. We all have our hopes and fears.
DeleteI know these colonies have a lot of cats in them, but I don't think I've seen that many cats together before!
ReplyDeleteIts a lot of cats for sure!
DeleteThe orange cats at the colony are beautiful, but I especially liked the first one with the black cats mixed in.
ReplyDeleteThere are a handful of blacks in the mix, a couple of tortis, one muted, a torbi I saw too.
DeleteI saw something on cats not too long ago, and the ginger cats were bred that way on purpose, I think during ancient Egyptian times. I might have some of those details wrong.
ReplyDeleteThese were bred all right but not by an Egyptian and I think inbred might be the better word.
DeleteOh, wow, that's a lot cats. Best wishes, and be safe.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a lot of cats.
DeleteHow did I miss typing 'of'? lol
