We have dissolved into some state of weather that is not summer like.
Yesterday was cold and cloudy. Today it is again in the 60's. Tomorrow was supposed to be nice but now the weather people are saying cloudy too. It won't get sunny again, according to the weather people, until Monday.
It's kind of depressing.
We have such long gray icky winters here, we look forward with a desperation, to the few months of sun, in the summer.
These are my volunteer sunflowers, growing under the bird feeder. They grow from birdseed flung out to the ground from the feeder. I love them.
I spotted the brown tabby unfixed male in my backyard. I've never seen him in my yard before but have seen him trotting like a stud down the street to my neighbors to eat. So now that he's bothering my cats by spray marking the cat yard, which makes them spray mark, time to do something about it.
This area is so full of bad irresponsible pet owners. Maybe its everywhere.
I went up to Silverton yesterday, to pick up the buff girl, spayed Monday, from Pioneer Villa. She'd been with them since mid May, when I trapped her and grabbed her three tiny kittens, all muted tortis. She was kept in a large cage to nurse them. They are now weaned and will get fixed and homes, but she is too wild to place, so back she went, to her home turf and colony mates.
I got to see SCR ladies new house, almost ready for her, her husband and her adult son, to move in. They lost their home in a fire a year and a half ago, which was hard, to say the least. I can't imagine how hard.
I got her in the car and drove from there down to PV, to release her. First I put out food on the porch of the mobile, where I caught her. Wizard, a rather tame to the mobile lady, still unfixed male had to check out her carrier after she exited it. The lady has tried to get him into a trap, which never works, by hand, which has made Wizard severely trap shy. I still hope to get him caught and fixed at some point.
I got my five traps back, while there, and also got an update on the Siamese girl kitten, formerly living under the office there, who went home with a worker. She's doing great, tamed instantly, uses litter box like a champ. This made me happy to hear.
Despite our cloudy cool weather, there's a wildfire raging out by Lapine in central Oregon, about 30 miles south of Bend. I don't know what the update is today. People have had to evacuate homes and businesses in Lapine. I thought they'd have it under control super fast, since its not like a mountainous wildfire--all flat out there. But winds have made it harder to contain.
Sorry about your weather. Our winter has been warmer than usual. Still chilly, but no possibility of freezing bubbles (yet). And yay for the good news and the sunflowers in the rest of your post. Good luck on finally getting Wizard.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's just no spots, so if I catch him, I have to pay a lot of money for a private vet fix, is the thing.
DeleteAh yes, fire season...
ReplyDeleteOur weather turned a bit cooler today, too. I'm okay with that as I don't enjoy extreme heat. (We haven't had extreme heat so far this year. I'm dreading it and hoping it doesn't happen.)
I just want sun, not clouds.
DeleteI wish I could trade you some sun and heat for your cool and gloomy...but you'd have to take the humidity along with it.
ReplyDeleteI've had a sunflower or two grow under the bird feeder, but not a crop like that. They are so pretty. Wouldn't be nice if we could average our hot, dry weather, with your cool gloomy weather? I think that would be just right.
ReplyDeleteI want to grow sunflowers, so it's good to know your beautiful blooms are volunteers. It shouldn't surprise me that you feed local birds. ~hugs~ I'm glad you had some good news to share and hope the fires don't destroy homes like an out of control blaze did to those poor folks you mentioned. It's something I cannot imagine. On a happier note, I can say that we don't see too many irresponsible pet people here (aside from across the street, but they also no longer have custody of their son ~shakes head~ I think, and hope, that the woman's father is raising the boy). Best wishes, my dear.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your weather. You deserve some blue skies!!
