It was yet another day of traffic madness and useless hours sitting in my car yesterday. In Portland.
I am a glutton for punishment.
I'd picked up six kittens in Sweet Home Wednesday night. I left for the clinic with them at 6:30 a.m. yesterday. For the night, they were in my bathroom. I thought they were going to be super tame but they were not. They were born to a stray half feral mom who showed up at their colony. I'd helped them get that colony fixed last year. I took the mom up to the FCCO with that other big Sweet Home colony, over a month ago.
They were not wild, just skittish and turns out they've lived their entire lives confined to a cage. They want to find them homes or a rescue but wanted them fixed before they tried. It is hard to find anywhere to take kittens currently.
I hit stop and go traffic even south of the rest area, which is south of Wilsonville, on the way up. It was frustrating. I finally got to the clinic, checked them in then went and had breakfast in King City, out beyond Tigard on 99. I like the Shari's there and they let me sit in there sipping coffee after breakfast awhile. I may have pushed the limits of "awhile".
Then it was parking lot after parking lot, trying to stay in the shade. Finally at 4:00 I could pick up the kittens and head home only to get bottled up in traffic again. I passed by Albany two hours after leaving Portland, which is about 45 minutes more than it should have taken, with normal traffic, but went right on by, got off the freeway and headed to Sweet Home, to return the kittens. 2 1/2 hours later I got home. It took so long in Sweet Home because only the 80 some year old grandma was home, and her Alzheimers stricken husband, whom she cares for. So I had to carry them all back inside, get them in the cage, myself. Six different traps. Ah well, finally got home a little after 8:00.
Not so bad, for a diehard I guess. Going to be over 90 here next few days. Nothing like it will be in Arizona or SoCal. Yikes! My trucker neighbor just told me he's flying to SoCal this afternoon, for a band concert. He's in a band. I asked how hot it would be. He said 98 and he had to buy a tent thing to cover the band stage. He's so funny. But won't be as hot here as the surface temp of the waters in southern Florida. Yikes again. Some of the temps there of the water are exceeding 98 degrees. What have we done to our planet.
Monday's appointments I gave to a lady just outside Corvallis who is super organized and already has the "candidates" contained inside. Ha! If only all were like that.
That was yet another incredibly long day. A long and productive day. I am glad that Monday's appointment should be easier on you. And yes, if only they were all like that...
ReplyDeleteOh no kidding. The lady is on top of it. Wouldn't it be nice......
DeleteQuite busy. I still don't understand who just let there pets roam and breed. The entire earth is getting hotter.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe.
you and me both don't get it. It's idiotic, irresponsible and bullshit, but so many people do it.
DeleteI've been dreading this part of the summer, but at least I live in a cooler part of SoCal. I hope those kittens are able to get homes and not have to live their whole lives in a cage.
ReplyDeleteGood that you are not in the super hot regions.
DeleteThere are a lot of weather extremes in the news these days. I just hope everyone survives.
ReplyDeleteThere sure are. Hope things improve.
DeleteThat was such a long day for you. I've never understood the appeal of Florida. High heat and humidity doesn't make for a nice life. Now there is even more reason to not want to live there under the current governor.
ReplyDeleteYes it was a long day. I can't understand the appeal either, especially with the heat, and water temps that are hot tub hot. What's to enjoy. And the current governor's issues with about everything on earth.
DeleteYou're not a pain glutton, you're an angel on earth to these cats in need. ~hugs~ And I'm always happy to read even the shortest interaction you have with a friendly neighbor. Best wishes, my dear.
ReplyDeleteOh I love my next door neighbors. I went to that concert with the lady of the pair. We had a blast. Thank you once again for your very kind words!
DeleteOh and will you get to see your movie finally, after the first attempt bust? Scars sounds like such a nice guy.
DeleteI'm thrilled that you have some good neighbors. ~hugs~ Scars is a very nice man. We spoke today and plan to try seeing the film again. He's been out of town, which is a story in itself. Thanks for the blog post idea. lol
