Here are photos of the five cats up being fixed today.
First the two from the Sweet Home colony.
They caught Patch too, who had three kittens a month or more ago, and abandoned them. I had tried to save one of them, by rushing it the vet student but it was too late. Bad Mom is her other name. |
There are still four who need fixed there, including the two who they know have recent litters. One of those moms has her five, now a month old almost, up by their trailer, so I get to see them when I go pick up cats. The other two who need caught to be fixed are a female and another male.
Fathead, from Waterloo |
This is Fathead (above photo) from Waterloo and you might be able to understand why, in the end, I drove all the way out there, to get him, late Saturday night. He's a sweet stray boy who should have been neutered long long time ago, so I wanted to be sure he finally does get neutered so he stands a chance at survival.
Scotty from Holly |
These folks that brought Scotty to be fixed contend constantly with dumped cats where they live. There were three this time. Scotty they actually finally scruffed and got inside but so far they've not had luck catching the other two.
Oatmeal from Brownsville |
This lady too, who brought Oatmeal up to be fixed, contends with unfixed dump offs where she lives. She currently has two, including Oatmeal, confined to the garage until they can be fixed plus another female with seven young kittens. The other female in the garage will be fixed next week and she hopes to get the third cat, the mom with kittens fixed at the FCCO, along with the kittens, once the kittens are big enough.
I have to figure out who really really needs fixed first, when getting the cats in. Cats being held in a garage so they won't get pregnant, now that's a responsible lady trying to keep things under control, so they get in as fast as possible. Big huge males, who don't stand one chance of surviving without getting and spreading diseases, getting hurt or killed, I try to get them in fast too and Fathead fit that bill.
Anyhow, I do the best I can with the resources out there, even if now, it does feel hostile at the Salem clinic to wild cat and stray cat kitten helping people.
The best you can is pretty damn good. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteAt least you're doing something. Doing nothing would mean you'd have a cat explosion, I imagine.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. Thanks.
DeleteThe very aptly named Fathead.
ReplyDeleteSure is a fitting name. He's also super sweet. They said he just showed up one day. They have a couple others now too who have showed up and need fixed. They feed them all, no matter, and I try to get them fixed, maybe 50 there now, at that one place. So many people in that tiny town do not fix their cats.
DeleteYou can only do what you can do. And I think you do a lot - despite the obstacles being thrown in your way at all levels.
ReplyDeleteI hope the successes outweigh the heartbreaks. ~hugs~ Thank you so much for your efforts.
