Santiam River is flooded almost clear up the boat ramp inside the park. |
It's pouring this morning. You have to turn the sound on for the video above to appreciate how hard its raining.
We were hit with the old atmospheric river again. I think some places near Portland got more rain in one day than is normal for the month of June. As you can imagine, we may once again break rain records for all time for June. Great.
I've done some inside projects and that's about it.
At some point, the neighbors next door, gone to Montana, will be back, and then get ready to put their house up for sale. The house two house the other side is empty now also. I'm not sure if the students who lived their are maybe just gone for the summer though and will be back. There was a moving van there, before whomever was living there left. Their parents own the house, bought it for them to live in, during their school years. It might be just one student aged child they have, and the others were roommates. I don't know. I get my information from other people. Maybe two houses on the block will be for sale at once.
I can't keep up even with who lives where, there's so much turnover. There are a few of us on the block who have been here seems like forever.
I got a few spots given me in a phone message from the clinic Friday late. They had cancellations Monday. I don't have to take the spots but when I heard the message I thought "whew, thank goodness, I've been so bored." I may take up a couple of cats.
Too much rain to do anything really at all. A lady on the wait list I have had been calling hoping to get her granddaughters cat fixed. She'd been calling me for a month but she also found out the cat had had yet another litter. Her granddaughter really should pay to get her own cat fixed, to learn some personal responsibility, I think to myself. What good is it if they cause so much suffering in the forward, by handing out free kittens from litter after litter, only to then get a free spay. I only thought that late last night, tired and bored and bitter. But its true.
I got one male lined up, from my list, which is extremely short now, since I have let everyone know I'll be on break for a few months. Then there's a lady on the list with two boys needing fixed but she was out last night late. A relative said she'd have her call but I haven't heard so far. I drove clear to Sweet Home yesterday, to chase down two boys condemned if they weren't fixed by a landlord. But alas, the tenant had already stopped feeding the boys, after landlord told him to stop, and hadn't seen the cats since. I came home feeling the weight and sadness of that, for the poor cats involved. And knowing I had just wasted almost $15 in gas didn't help my mood any. Would have been worth it, had I been able to save the boys from starvation, by getting them fixed.
The cost of gas to do anything is killing a lot of people. The price in Lebanon at all the stations I passed was $5.29 a gallon for regular if you pay cash. In town here its a dime more expensive per gallon. So mostly I'm stuck at home all the time, not owning a gold mine to take a brick of gold out to hand over to a gas station for a few gallons. I need the brick of gold now to buy a small bag of groceries instead. And I need several of those bricks to pay the ever rising utility bills.
I stopped in at the park. I hadn't been there in a long while. Lots of people there but most were huddled under picnic shelters. The river was very high.
The mighty Columbia River may even get to flood stage. The higher the Columbia gets the more boats can't get under the bridges without them lifting, which slows traffic down. Here are two videos of the high water, very short, one better than the other.
Today I may or may not chase down another couple cats to take up tomorrow.
I don't know how much rain is predicted for today. The two good days of next week might be Tuesday and Wednesday. Don't know yet and they always change or vanish seems like.
The rain is a bummer, for sure. I still feel very lucky. I have food to eat and a roof over my head. Can't beat that.
Oh, my dear, take care. ~hugs~ These are crazy times.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are.
DeleteI don't know which bothers me more...being wasteful and or not taking responsibility for one self.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure at times I been lacking in both areas.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Me too.
DeleteEchoing Darla.
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteA roof over you head to protect you from the rain is indeed a blessing, but that doesn't mean that the lack of sunshine isn't depressing. Found any good books or movies to watch while you are stuck inside?
ReplyDeleteOh, I am on the last book of about three dozen given me by a friend awhile back.
DeleteYou can only do what you can do. Enjoy your gas prices. We've reached $6/gallon here.
