Lake Day Again

I went up to the lake this afternoon with a friend, who drove her pickup, with my kayak in the back.  I only had to drive as far as Lebanon.  I'm hoping to ride share with other people looking to go to the lake, or anywhere really.   I can't afford gas to go much of anywhere anymore, so my only option is looking for ride shares.

She likes to just swim.   There was less drift, because a lot of it by now has blown up against shorelines.

I paddled around on the lake and upriver while she just sat on a log or swam or read.

Boats, some large, some small, came and went.  Kayakers and paddle boarders came and went.  A guy on a jet ski launched, rode around some, tipped it over and swamped it, seemed to rattle him, and he put it on a trailer and left.

A man came by asking if we'd seen his paddles.  He'd left them by accident night before.  We hadn't.

Nice day up there.  Upper 70's maybe.  Perfect really.  There was quite a lot of wind and the lake was white capped much of the afternoon, which I actually love--rough water, the rocking.  I used to love that on my raft and would nap when it was roughest, because something about that rocking and rolling in the waves puts me to sleep.  The kayak isn't a napping sort of vessel.  Too bad. Well, can't have everything.

There was a swarm of butterflies mating just off the water.   Lusty devils.

I thought maybe my cats would have cleaned their litter boxes and done the dishes while I was gone.  No such luck.

I didn't see the floating upside down picnic table this time.  It may have sunk somewhere.  Or maybe someone pulled it out.  The red dock float was no longer against the rock shore other side of the point.  It was by now down against the shoreline at the back of the point.  I used to call that area trash collection bay because so much lake junk ends up there. I have a boogie board in fact that I found there a few years back.  I collected a couple of fishing floats, off the water, that now will become cat toys.

  1. I am very glad that you had another lake day. If cats cleaned their own litter boxes and did the dishes you would never have any trouble finding homes where they were wanted...

    1. Yeah, they'd be in demand as dishwashers everywhere. Licking their butts then washing out dishes. Nice thought.

I'm pleased to hear you had a nice time sailing. What eventually happens to the timber blown to the shore?
What lazy and ungrateful cats, after all you do for them.

    1. When the water level drops the timber is trapped once again on the shore, left high and dry. It could be cut up and dried out for firewood but nobody does that anymore, seems like. Darn lazy cats, I know. About to fire them, like would help.

  3. I don't think I've ever seen butterflies mate. That was interesting.

    1. It was nice, except paddling so much wore me out the next day. Might be out of shape, lol.

Younger Crowd

Besides the mostly very elderly cats here, a younger crowd provides entertainment.  For the most part, they're happy healthy and insane...
