Pouring Rain

Back to pouring rain.  Very heavy rain.  Supposed to continue at least through Sunday night.

I haven't seen the weather report today or for beyond Sunday.

The mom cat from Cascadia had five kittens yesterday.   Last night she had to go to the ER vet.  She'd been  panting heavily for two hours.   KKR thought for sure they'd find another kitten stuck up in her, but they didn't and concluded it was stress and pain from the birthing.

The visit was costly, as any vet visit is now.   Highlights how the costs of not fixing a pet are laid at the feet of others.   There will still need to be six spay/neuters too, vaccines, all that for mom and the five babies, if they all survive.   I wish there were laws about fixing pets......its ridiculous the whole overpopulation thing.  Unnecessary if people would behave responsibly.  I realize an entire very money rich operation has grown all around the overpopulation problem.  Some shelter directors get paid half a million a year.  Maybe some even more.   Then us little poor people, for the most part, spring up all over to try to halt the suffering.   Its ridiculous all around.

Keithas Kitties sent me an update video on the sick elderly pregnant orange girl I trapped at their request over behind the gas station a few weeks back.   She then had one lone kitten two days later.

Here's the video. Looks like both are doing well.

This is Maybellene with her five kittens  Guess she's doing better this morning.  Hope she'll be ok.

I scored a spay spot Monday for the older kittens mom, and will try to locate her up beyond Cascadia on Sunday.   Wish me luck on that because the homeless folk there I think are supposed to be out and gone by then.  He wants to keep her and his other unfixed mom cat that has the newborns.  The other couple, who own the girl kitten I got fixed and returned also have another unfixed adult female.  They would not let me take her to be fixed, stating she is pregnant.   Great.  More kittens born to produce even more kittens later on seeding another feral colony somewhere else.

Very much looking forward to summer off from helping everyone and their cousin get cats fixed.    Hoping the reservoir gets filled so I can spend most of the summer in the water.   I feel alive again in the water away from the rat race of cars and concrete and traffic and crowding everywhere here in Albany.

  1. You are having rain, and today we have our first frost of the season.
And yes, vets are VERY expensive. Good luck for relocating the older kittens mama. And a big sigh at those who let animals reproduce and reproduce. And usually don't take care of any of them.

It's a sweet little video. I am always shocked by pet care costs here. They seem disproportionately much higher than when had pets. You've certainly earnt your summer break, and make sure it is a break this year.

  3. I never had a non-fixed cat as a pet. I just don't get why people want to risk kittens. But people are weird.

    1. Who would have an unfixed cat? The howling, the marking.....giving away kittens to strangers.....not for me, but sure are a lot of people who do. People are strange and getting stranger.

  5. I think people don't get their pets fixed because of just plain ignorance in most cases. What's frustrating is when the benefits of it are explained and they ignore it.
