Camera Failure

Leathers gas station bird

My latest powershot with rotating LCD screen and 40x zoom capacity broke.

It started showing signs a couple weeks ago.  Today it overexposed everything.  Same old. My last one bit the dust in similar fashion.  I still have that one.  Had hoped to figure out how to fix it.  Now I can add another to that pile, that I'll realistically never get to.  But hey, now I could try fixing one using parts from the other.   Oops, forgot, same thing went wrong on both.

I got both on ebay.  This one that just broke has lasted a long time.  I just found another, same model (been discontinued so they're all very used), for under $40 and ordered it.   Am I in a rut?   Well, they're cheap and very functional, I've found.  I love the rotating LCD screen and the 40x zoom capacity.  I use it often just as a vision aid, like to look under places for lost items or for cats, like under houses.  Plus, in sun, you can rotate the screen so the bright sun doesn't block it out from sight which happens with fixed place LCD screen cameras.

My phone camera is very bad.  It works horribly in low light or with any flash use and doesn't zoom much either.  I use it but not much.

But the phone barely works anymore.  I turn it off at night to charge it.  But if I use it much at all, I have to charge the battery two or three or more times during the day too.

I will keep it going as long as I can, for text and talk. I have my old trac fone I can switch to, but I can't switch the number to the trac fone since I don't own the failing phone or plan.  It's my brothers.

Switching all my contacts and business to a new number is not a fun thing to think about.

I have  done it a couple times though in the past years already.  I don't relish doing it again.

I almost lost my SS over having a new number although I tried very very hard to give SS my new number.  It never took, despite attempts, even by snail mail to the local office, messages, lengthy conversations at the national office.   Scared the living daylights out of me, to think I might end up without even SS to live on, over the beaurocratic mess involved of changing a phone number.

It kind of terrifies me now, so I'll nurse this phone along long as I can.

Using its camera really drags on the battery.  So, ebay came through again and I hope the new old camera works ok once it arrives for another few years.  Here's to used old cameras!!!!!

  1. Things are out of this world when comes to prices. I had my smart phone for a while, paid little over a 100 for it.

    1. No kidding and getting worse. My old trac fone works fine and I don't have a problem using it and I probably will ignite it again, with the prepaid plan cards to save on the other one.

  2. Wow, that's a mess with the phone. There's got to be a way to migrate the number to a new phone, because that old phone does not sound like it's going to be with you for much longer.

  3. I use an old camera, not one on my phone, usually. And people look at me strangely when they see me using it. But I have an older very basic phone and its camera is not that good.

    1. It does seem old school now to use a camera other than the one on your phone. But that's how I like it too.

  4. I cannot believe you went through all that with SS! That's crazy, but I shouldn't be surprised. Best wishes on all fronts going forward. ~hugs~ And is this photo from that sweet Bird Lady's house?
