Range

My range was delivered yesterday, just before noon.

The box it came in was very large.   My friend, Dean, who is retired but has worked as an electrician, came over to hardwire it in place, like the old one was hardwired.   Easier and cheaper than getting an appliance outlet, installing it, then getting the appliance cord.   The old range at been off at the circuit breaker for months.
I peeked inside the box at the new range.

He did not cut out the build up the slide in range sat on, that is a wood platform of about three or four inches in height on the bottom.  So the range sits very high, above the countertop but I like it at its height.  At any time, I can pull it out and take out the build up at the bottom.

I used my large metal dolly to get the old one out, and also to pull the new one in, from the garage, up the two steps.   I didn't hurt myself, that I know of, doing this.

I held the new range at an angle for my friend, as he did the hardwire work.  It was very fast.

Later I took all the cardboard to the recycle place.   Dean says he'll come pick up the old metal range and take it to the metal recycler later on, with his trailer hitched up.

I put all my pots and pans into the draw beneath the oven.  Now I can take down the pegboard where they formerly hung.
It's a very simple range with five knobs, four for element heat control and one for the oven.  It has a light switch for the oven.  That's it though.  No clock or timer or digital anything.   It was affordable however.

Even sitting atop the build up meant for the slide in, it looks quite cozy.  I will take out the build up sooner rather than later since the range front legs are hanging in air.

Slinko was being his possessive self yesterday morning when Smolder tried to come onto the bed to snuggle.

  1. Yay! A new range just in time for fall and winter baking. It's quite handy to have an electrician for a friend and one with a truck big enough to take away the old one. :)

    1. Yes, it is nice to have someone who can come over and hardwire a stove in nothing flat. Now, if he could only fix my poor car, whose starter appears to be going out. It won't start, in other words, after it runs a bit. someone said its a curse. I get one thing fixed, the new stove, so the car breaks down.

  2. The new range looks great - and will do all you need it to do.
I am very familiar with those territorial standoffs. Jazz does them (from the safety of the kitchen) when he sees either of the Ginger interlopers on our deck.

    1. The boys sure like to spat and sometimes the girls do too. I wonder if the gingers are fixed. Maybe not?

    2. I suspect that big and little Ginge are NOT fixed. Which infuriates me.

  4. My Mom stored her pans in the oven too...and several times turned on the oven and forgot they were in there. Played havoc with the handles.

    1. there's a drawer under the oven for pots and pans, not in it.

The cats would have loved the box. A simple stove that works. The oven looks very big but perhaps that is a standard size in your country.

    1. I think its a normal size oven, except has that big drawer at the bottom, to hold pots and pans, so that takes a lot of space and probably makes it look bigger.

I mentioned the size of your oven to R and he who watches American tv renovation shows tells me it is all about fitting a large turkey into the oven.

  6. Good friends are a treasure. :) As for the range, sometimes simple is better. ~nods~ One time a new range came out of the box squashed. What a sight that was! I guess a truck lift operator didn't confess to an accidental long drop.
