Every other year the dysfunctional looking but highly productive small apple tree out front over produces. This is a productive year. I thinned the apple starts over and over, but never could keep up and gave up on that. Buckets upon buckets of apples this year.
Today I'm making another pie. I'll dry some of the apples, although its not as easy without a full size oven, and make some applesauce from others.
I found a range I like at Lowe's and hope to get it this week. I'm very excited about the prospect!
The house at the end, where the man died recently, has been fixed up and is now up for sale. Previously, it had been a rental. Its up for sale for $330,000. Three bedrooms, two baths, and a big old apartment complex right behind it. It's right at the end of the cul de sac, next to the house I call the car lot because they have a zillion cars, so many they often have two or three parked in front of my place.
Fritter, the buff boy cat who lives at the apartment complex is back out again, after hiding out during all the revamp work on the dead man's place.
I haven't seen Fluffy Butt or the other cats from the neighbors behind me. Only Gigi, the garage girl, who often lives in my garage now. But the people who live in the house behind me have been back, some of them at least, so maybe they were on vacation.
Today the weather is supposed to be cooler, down in the mid 80's and most of the smoke gone, due to a marine air push from the west.
That is a HEAP of apples. And hooray for a new range. And cooler, mostly smoke free weather is a definite plus.
ReplyDeleteYes, way too many apples. The earwigs got to some but even they could not deal with the sheer numbers.
DeleteIt really is a bumper crop. It's a pity cats don't eat apples. It must be exciting to be getting a new....range. Funny that we call them ovens but the exhaust system above is a range hood.
ReplyDeleteIt is too bad they won't eat them. Be a big help. But who ever heard of cats helping out. Yeah, I don't know what to call it---range, oven...The one I'm getting is very simple, four elements on top, an oven that only heats, doesn't air fry or convect, and it has a storage drawer for pots and pans, which I really like. It is very affordable, being so simple, no frills.
DeleteThose look like nice apples.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
You might want to look into buying a simple dehydrator. I think they cost less than thirty dollars, and although it would add to your electric bill you'd have food that would last a long time.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a good idea because I like dehydrated fruits and vegees and I spice them up before drying them out. Then I take them everywhere, to snack on. I used to have sacks and sacks of dried tomatoes, done with various spices. I loved them.
DeleteYour line, "who ever heard of cats helping out?" cracked me up. I hope your new appliance ~grin~ works out.
ReplyDeletewell they're not a lot of help around the house, that's for sure. I have again procrastinated on getting the stove. I do now have a double element hot plate, sent me by a friend, that makes life easy on me.
