Today I'm staying in. I have no responsibilities today. I already returned Bagherra.
Sometimes the best thing I can do is stay home and do nothing. It's going to be almost 100 again today. The skies are clogged in smoke and dust and probably will be til Monday, when we get two cooler days. Gas is very expensive currently and so is food and just about everything else.
Covid is ravaging Oregon. Hospitals are full and there are dire warnings about what this can mean like if people have heart attacks or are injured in car wrecks, etc, when all the beds are full of Covid people. It's very selfish of people not to get vaccinated. It's a very first world problem as in many other countries people would be so happy to get vaccines against such a scourge.
The sun rose hot and red from wildfire smoke |
Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be upper 70's and low 80's, before heat again returns after that. I'm looking forward to those two days. The smoke is supposed to vanish too those days when marine air gains the upper hand to cool us off and drive out the smoke.
I checked my engine oil yesterday and added some. I checked the radiator water levels and they were fine. I added to the windshield washing fluid. Also got quite a lot of cleaning done yesterday and finally caught Angel, my old gal with the fine undercoat that mats. I didn't think she was as matted as she turned out to be. Her hair looked short, from the distance I'd see her, but not matted. However the undercoat was bad again. It took me 40 minutes to trim her almost to skin. She's about 14 years old now, and has the nothing to her feel of an old cat whose bones have no mass anymore. I trimmed her nails too and flea treated her and wished her luck in the cat yard, where she mainly lives and exhorted her to be careful! She's a wild thing and wants to live her life her own way and I let her, except I trim that coat of hers off at least twice a year--usually fall and spring.
So today with anything crucial already done, I will do nothing at all. I have no more spay neuter appointments until October now, so its another month and half off for me!

Peggy and I are staying in too. I went out yesterday long enough to do a little water and deadheading, but between the heat and smoke, I soon felt sick. On Thursday, our patio thermometer reported 114.
ReplyDeleteThere's no reason to be outside to suffer if you don't have to be. The smoke and heat are together miserable!
DeleteI do hope that your cooler days come. And stay.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that Jazz doesn't matt. I suspect that unmatting him would involve my blood.
Matting cats are a lot of work. Add in matting ferals, and its even more a pain. But I've managed with the few I have to keep them mostly matt free over the years.
DeleteI hope you have some good books or movies to watch during these hot days. Just like the cold days of winter, the extremely hot days of summer call for some quiet "nesting" at home.
ReplyDeleteCold I can deal with better than extreme heat and smoke
DeleteThose temperatures are too hot to go out in!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are too hot for doing a darn thing. I sleep during the day now and do my chores early and late.
DeleteWhen COVID broke out here last year, we were told part of the reason for lockdowns was to ensure there weren't many car accidents that could take up a hospital bed. Sorry your weather conditions are so bad.
ReplyDeleteA month and a half off? We shall see.
Oh stop it Andrew. Already I've booked 12 cats in for the 22nd. I knew you'd know somehow.
DeleteYes. Your fans know. :) Thank you for all the care you give these precious kitties. I bet Angel feels much better.
DeleteIt is selfish not to get shot. I rather have pretty much no social life. And end up dying on a ventilator.
ReplyDeleteSmoke has let up somewhat, look possible rain on Tuesday.
Coffee is on and stay safe
I have no social life anyhow, Dora.
