I took four cats, all from Cascadia, up to be fixed yesterday.
Three of them were from the big colony and then Meadow, the Siamese, was from Shorty's.
I still don't know what to do about Meadow, whether to believe her that she is leaving and Meadow would be on her own or if she is bullshitting me, and this is her way to try to get me to take Meadow and find her somewhere else. Behind that problem is the problem of the 2nd kitten, if there is one, is it even right, if there is one there, to not return her mother? Or would both then be left behind? I don't know what to do about Meadow, and the alleged second kitten. I don't even know for sure there is a second kitten plus Shorty has five other cats, all tame, who run around outside who would be there for the kitten. The kitten would be ten weeks old or so. I know that because the first one I caught was that age.
The other three fixed are two moms from the other colony and a teenage boy. I named him Beanie and the moms Rose and Matilda.

The vet students had said they could fix up to ten cats from the colony today, if I could go back up there and catch them yesterday. I planned on doing that. I took the four cats up to be fixed, came home to load traps and heard a hissing sound from one tire. Then I found a nail in it.
That put a hold on any other plans. I went to Costco and waited for them to open then got the car back with the tire fixed about 10:45 I think it was. As a result of the tire problem, I didn't get up to the colony until just after noon and would have to leave by 1:30, in order to get home, unload, and get up to Salem on time to pick up the cats just fixed.
I did my best up there. Their friend was there, the one whose cats I was going to get fixed and then he never showed up at the time I was picking them up. I drove all the way up to Cascadia to get his cats and he doesn't show? So I had no good impression of him already. Yesterday he had been there for awhile before I arrived and no cat would be out with him anywhere. He constantly talks, yells and moves around. Trying to manage him, while setting traps, and also the woman there, who seems completely disinterested in the quest to catch cats, was too much. At one point, she sat down right beside a trap to be busy on her phone. Like wtf.
I trapped two teens and three tiny kittens and left. I was lucky to get anybody.
Today I return the two moms from there and maybe Meadow, I don't know yet about her. I can't decide what to do about her.
The students came and took the 3 tiny kittens, the two teens plus Beanie, the teen fixed yesterday. One of the two I'd caught is Beanie's sibling. They will fix the two I just caught then try to tame the teens.
These are the latest two teens caught.....

Once again, it shows that you care about each and every cat that you rescue. There are many unknowns about Meadow and your human contact, Shortie. Maybe there's another kitten or maybe not. Maybe Shortie is moving or maybe she's not. It is a hard decision, but if it were me, I would go with the known. Don't take Meadow back to assure that she can find a better home.
ReplyDeleteThanks L and L. I have gone with the known, as you also suggested, and am fine with that. Meadow is currently in my bathroom, an easy girl to keep, and I hope to find ehr a placement. I got her tested for FIV/Felk at spay, preparing for this expected outcome. Shortie called me while I was driving the girls back to their colony and I outright lied to her, and said I wasn't coming today because I was too tired and that was at about the time I passed teh turn off to where she lives. I couldn't deal with talking to her today. She already had a list of more demands of me, like placing all the rest of her cats. Open a door a crack for her.......oh gosh. Tomorrow, after I tell her I will not return Meadow, which will thrill her, I will block her number.
DeleteYou are (as is so often the case) facing a real quandary.
ReplyDeleteDo the best you can - which you always do and is more than most.
I will do the best I can.
DeleteHow you deal with folks like Shortie is amazing. Best wishes, my dear.
