My bathroom is in chaos.
Kittens, kittens, kittens, and now their mom too.
She needs fixed then can go home, but finding one lone spay spot is not easy these days.
Too bad it isn't.
I can't hold them in the garage. Too hot.
I have nowhere in my place for a large cage. Too crowded.
So...the bathroom it is. Temporarily life is hectic here.
The last two weeks have been rather busy. First it was the mom and her three black male kittens behind the Mobile station in Lebanon who needed help. I caught all them and they're doing just fine. Mom is fixed now. The boys get fixed the 30th. They're up in Keizer with a young woman.
Then it was the mom and kitten at Waterloo park. The latest to show up there in trouble. Trapped them frantically early morning Friday, after spotting them Thursday night, as the campground there filled and people began to mass gather at the park. Another early morning of trapping there produced no more kittens but that doesn't mean there aren't more.
KATA came and took them and will socialize the boy kitten and find him a home. They had a spay spot open this Friday so they'll get the mom fixed then.
Then it was the 3rd street vacant house colony once again. It was only about a month ago I caught four kittens there and five adults. Keitha's Kitties took the kittens since they had been called for help about the situation there, and found another kitten who was laid out and they could hand grab. So we thought that was that. Ten cat/kitten colony. Until more kittens were seen and another unfixed female with them.
So I left the neighbors of the vacant house traps Saturday morning, the ones I had in the car already from trapping earlier at the park. They began catching them that same day and the next day, the 4th of July and today caught two more. Six kittens in all. They caught the mom last night. Great, I thought, where will I stow her til I can find a spay spot.
I was too tired to work out anything by the time I got home with her and the latest kitten, a black male, on the 4th, and put both in the bathroom. Todays' two additions means six kittens and the mom in there. I am actually not unhappy about them catching the mom. Maybe now all the adults really are fixed there, at least once this girl in the bathroom gets done and goes back home. They've recaught two of the fixed males. Other than drive to Lebanon twice to pick up caught kittens and mom, I did nothing on the fourth, but nap intermittently on the futon and then my bed. The usual suspects blew up the air Sunday night with their illegal fireworks, which I slept through. A few of them went off as I finished chores outside. "Meh" I thought, and went to bed. They bore me to death.
I don't know if there are more kittens or not. I emailed the FCCO in Portland hoping for a Wednesday spay appointment, since its just one cat. I'm sure the clinic is booked. But.....please? Just one cat?

I gave each a first vaccination, flea treatment and roundwormer. I always do that for kittens. Mom only got flea treatment since she'll hopefully get wormed when fixed and certainly will get vaccinated. I can't bring fleas into the house, however, so she had to get flea treated to be in the bathroom even if only for a couple days. Rules!
I may take the mom and some of the kittens to Portland tomorrow evening if Karen is successful finding fosters for any of them. Its darn hard to find anyplace with any room. Rescues and shelters are so full of the unwanted cats and kittens of our world already.
Anyhow, last few days, even during the heat wave and then during the holiday, got three moms and their kittens to safety and one mom is even already fixed. The other two will be soon as possible. I know I'm supposed to be on a break, but what else really can one do when its 110 during the day? Get up super early, catch some cats, come home, and take a nap. That's what I did. I'm not sorry.
Today I weed eated and weeded the area on the side of the house facing that neighbor who was on the property spraying a couple weeks back. Trespassing is the real word for it, plus criminal mischief, the term for her spraying without asking. I decided I don't have time to be mad at her right now, so I'll make her as happy as possible if that's even possible. I even cleaned the heat pump. Lol. The things I do to keep the peace.
I apparently did not win the vaccine lottery. I never got that call. Oregon had one million dollar prize, then a 10K prize in each county. That's not much of a chance. I could have used that, and bought a decent car. Was thinking one of those Ford Transit vans, the small one, would be perfect for cat transport and me. I have no idea who did win.
I won the kitten lottery that's for sure. Again. Getting old! And I hope to win a golden ticket for a spay surgery for one gorgeous black female currently residing in my bathroom. That would be a big win.
Yes, I was going to mention you should be taking a break. But as you say, it isn't weather to do too much.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the hot hot weather then the holiday gave me really nothing much to do, at least during the heat of the day. So, no issue really, getting the three moms and their kittens help.
DeleteFingers crossed you do find a spot for mama.
ReplyDeleteAll of the black cats melt my stony heart.
She is gorgeous--sleek black with copper colored eyes. A beauty!
DeleteWhen the kittens are there with their mom, do you have to feed them?
ReplyDeleteYes, they're older kittens, so her milk production is way way down. Three of the kittens are likely from one of the two fixed females. Who knows though. They're darn cute!
