Time to Daze

I don't know what to say about today.  Yesterday was depressing.   I just could not get it together.

Today I got up early and returned Buffy, from the park, fixed on Friday.   She was pregnant at spay, so got a couple days extra to recuperate.  Her one kitten I trapped is probably 12 weeks and she was at least a month pregnant, maybe more, so, well, yikes.

There are too many people in a park to return her anyhow on the weekend.  All of Oregon seems crammed to the max with people sometimes.  Now you actually have to get a reservation online to see Multnomah Falls.  You get an hour for a dollar.  Pity the souls without internet or a credit card.   Some folks won't be able to see "public lands" for want of internet and a credit card.

The online parts store where I purchased the oven bake element said "great, returns can be made up to a year after you purchase".  This was after I contacted them and told them the part is now useless to me because the range wiring is fried.  I knew there must be a catch to their entire year return the part/refund policy.  There was.  They don't pay postage.  Guess what the post office wanted for me to send that light weight oven bake element back to Illinois?   $49 and some cents.  That's right.  No error in reading.  Almost fifty bucks.  They said its because the box is large.   Really.   So the new part is now in the trash can with the old burned out part.

The range is history with the scorched wiring.  My brother wants me to get a stand alone range to put in that spot.  He'll have to come cut out the build up at the bottom and the counters at the back, with his flush cut tools.  I don't have any flush cut tools.  The current range is a slide in, is why.  He and his wife are vacationing in Alaska for a couple weeks starting in a few days, so at some point after that he'll do the cutting, he says.   No rush, since appliances are very hard to come by these days.   Home Depot had all of two, to look at.  Anyhow, I'm now out of Sterno for my six inch fold up Sterno stove.  I'll get a four pack at Bimart tomorrow.  I can cook about anything on that little thing.

Few days ago I made red curry.

I've been watering the Butterfly Bush so the bees, birds and butterflies have a place to eat.  I didn't get butterfly photos this morning but the bumblebees were at it big time.

Wish I had a photo of this beautiful sunflower before its flower dried out and it sagged over.

The bees also love the catnip plants.  I let them go to flower, just for the bees.  I ordinarily wouldn't and would have harvested for drying.

The six kittens from the vacant house in Lebanon are doing great with the Portland lady fostering them.  Look at Figaro, the black tux girl, relaxing all confident with her best friend River, the family Husky.  The last two kittens went to Heartland Humane in Corvallis.

So, 13 kittens later, from four different moms, one of whom I never met, a few moms fixed various places, and a lot of driving later---back to normal here.  No extras.  That was just the last couple of weeks.   Ok, now its break time.  Right?

I want my raft to have no holes and laze out on a lake without any motor boats racing around making noise and stinking the air with gas fumes.  Cause I want to daze out for a few weeks, blankly.

I hope you can laze out for some time. I think a stand alone range will be good. It will see you out as people of our age say.

    1. Yes, it will last beyond me and then some. There are some very slick looking ranges out there. Been staring wide eyed online. I do like to cook and bake. I tried so many new things during pandemic boredom. I'll have one in there by fall I will guess.

  3. We have also been appliance shopping and I didn't know the difference between slide in and free standing. Now I do. We have ordered our appliances, but it will be a while before they get here. That's okay because it will be months before we get our new cabinets. Have you thought about looking on Free Cycle, Facebook, etc., for a range? As people redo their kitchens, they often get rid of working appliances as they upgrade. You might find one that will work until your brother can come and do the work.

    1. Well getting my brother here isn't that easy. I don't think he's been here to the house in over 7 years. Maybe longer. I may end up getting a flush cut tool and readying it for the stand alone myself and yes, will check out used ranges, but have found people lie like dogs when trying to rid themselves of unwanted appliance. Even the drier I got at Habitat Store was a wreck and I had to return it the next day, with video of the horrendous bearing failure noise it was making. They claim to test them. They hadn't tested that thing.

  4. Oh, I love curry. :) And great footage/photos of plants and insects. I planted butterfly bushes more than once before learning that they don't really live that long here. Who knew? The garden centers selling them sure don't tell it like it is. But one center hosted a lecturer who did. Heh... It's all good since I found other things the pollinators enjoy.

Best wishes on getting your kitchen and appliances squared away. I didn't know there was a shortage. We were lucky and had no trouble with our smaller replacement items.

    1. Me too, Darla, I just love curry. I make it many ways, but my favorite recipe has shredded carrots, coconut milk, red curry paste, ginger, coriander, spinach leaves (a cup and a half of them) and lime juice. My butterfly bush has been here since I moved in, 14 1/2 years ago. I prune it regularly.

  5. The curry looks great, and thanks for sharing the flower photos.

River certainly has the illusion of a killer stare, whereas Figaro has obviously settled in as lord of the manor. Scenes like that just have to made you feel that your efforts are making a difference.
