Slow Days

Rain has returned and this weekend, we may get hit by tremendous amounts of rain.

When we flood here, its because the storm drains along the streets cannot drain the water fast enough into the river and so water will back up flooding streets, sometimes very very quickly.  That's only happened twice in my years here.  The usual scenario for local flooding involves snow, usually several inches into the lowlands, with sudden warming and melt.

Meanwhile the east coast.....Ha, inundated in snow, like they haven't seen in a long while.

I go about my business, which is mainly cleaning and cleaning more, going to feed the boys and that's about it, outside of the occasional trip to get groceries.

I see no one and no one sees me.  Outside of cat transport days, like today.

I picked up two Albany cats and had three others delivered.  Two of those delivered cats are from a farm just outside Albany, while the third is a kitten from that Millersburg colony.   The neighbor had tamed him, and her parents took him and a girl kitten from the same colony.  But now the boy, just four months of age, is trying to mount his sister and her parents can't get them in at their own vet for several weeks.  So there's that.

Sammy, being neutered today

So I briefly see people when I get their cats, to go to be fixed.  I will sit in my car in line today, at the clinic, along the curb, to drop off, and then to pick up the cats, and will also briefly see people, through the car window and masks today, while doing that, at least.

Other than that, I live in a surreal isolated world.  Just me and my cats.

Oregon got a few thousand vaccines earlier in the week.  The second shipment of vaccines was cut in half by the feds, for WA too and no one knows why.  I could guess.  Blue states.   That's just a guess, but with this administration, that's how they roll.

It will likely be months before I can get a vaccine.    We had over 100 deaths in two days here in Oregon a few days back.   So I stick with my routine and hope for the best.

What else can one do?

Commando, an Albany boy

Griz, a Millersburg boy, also being fixed today

Lastly being fixed, this pair.  Smokey and The Bandit!

  2. I am so glad that you have your cats and brief encounters with other people.
And hope that the vaccine roll out picks up pace.

  3. You know, sometimes, cats are better company than people. :)

  4. Aside from Peggy--who I'm with 24/7 nowadays--I see even fewer people than you. In fact, I never see anyone except for on TV or computer. Covid has certainly made me appreciate my cats more than ever.
