Hot Day

The day was hot but the heat deteriorated quickly into a humid pressure feeling heat.  As if thunderstorms could burst out to relieve that pressure I could feel, literally, around me.

I went to the park early.  At first I fielded thoughts of going later and maybe going for a short swim but the water is too cold in the river.  The reservoir water is warmer but it was too far for today.  Camping is open in county parks as of Monday and maybe in forest service parks too.  Some state parks are open now, but only day use I think.  I'm not sure.

Even early the parking lots at both boat ramps were filling with pickups and empty boat trailers.  The upper boat ramp dumps boats into the river below the falls. The boat ramp inside the park is for boats that want to go upriver.  These were all drift boats.  I never knew so many people owned those.  They're expensive boats!  Very classy looking and quintessential Oregon.

I didn't see any boats though, on the river, from the inside the park boat ramp.

Looking down river, towards the falls

There are two pairs of geese now with goslings.  This is the pair with the older goslings.

The new family, with tiny goslings.  You can barely see them.
The gang of Mergansers run up and down the stretch of river too, from boat ramp to the falls.   There must be 8 of them hanging together.

I drove home and took Airport Road from Lebanon to the highway.  For the second time, some asshole was tailgating me  through the 25 mph then the 35 mph zones and finally spun out behind me, hitting the gas, veered out into the turn lane in the middle and passed me at a high rate of speed.  Right in town.   I try not to react to such drivers because I figure people who do this are nuts.  Or drunk.  Or just had a fight with their girlfriend.  Something like that.  No harm, no foul, though, you know?

I went to get my groceries.  And while there got a couple of colorful cement yard stones and a fence decoration.  I think its beautiful.  I also got some flowers at the pop up nursery in the parking lot.

You could get four flowers for $1.50 which is a darn good price.

I planted the flowers once I got home so they wouldn't melt in the heat of the car.  That's one of the colorful cement step stones.

And this is my fence creature!  I love it!

I did a bunch of weeding then the heat did me in.   I came inside and tried to watch something on TV but fell asleep instead.  When I woke up, whatever I had been watching was long over.

  1. The river looks lovely without people.
Love your flowers and that butterfly is beautiful.
I have been weeding too. And there is a lot more I could/should do.

    1. I'm sure the birds love the river without people. They'll be shocked when everyone returns I suppose. Those weeds just keep on coming, EC. I think so often about maybe making the lawn vanish into kind of a forest floor landscape. Except there'd be no big trees so it wouldn't last that way.

Ignoring bad behaviour on the road is the best way to avoid trouble. I love the butterfly.

    1. Yes, I think it is the wisest way to respond. I'm always making up excuses for the other driver's behavior too. Like "must be a new dad rushing to the delivery room" or somethiing. Or, "he just got word his house is on fire". I love the butterfly too!

  3. We had a freeze last night, but it's supposed to warm up to the 50's today. I hope I can go to a park like you did, however, since some of our restrictions were lifted also, I wonder if it will be crowded.

You got a lot of fun stuff for your yard and I especially like the butterfly. What kind of flowers are those?

    1. I am afraid some of the stimulus check I got is going to flowers! And you would ask what those are. It was a strange name, I thought, and now I can't remember it. They look like daisies but they're not. We had very hot weather yesterday and may also today, before rain again is forecast for tomorrow, so yeah everybody wanted to get outside somewhere. I am very anxious to get eye glasses with some of the stimulus check I got and hope the Vision Center with eye exams is up and running at Costco, if not now, soon. The other trouble is since your eyes get dilated with an eye exam, I'd have to have a ride, not easy right now in that regard.

  4. The white flowers with delicate thread-like leaves might be cosmos.

  5. Drift boats are new to me. I always learn something new from you, as well as moving. ~nods~ That is a great deal on flowers. Sorry about the heat and missing the end of a program I remember always falling asleep before the last fifteen minutes of shows like "Star Trek: Next Generation" and "X-files" back in the nineties. The loud ensuing commercials would wake me up to minor consternation. Heh... I agree that those flowers look like cosmos. And your yard art is beautiful! Take care, my dear.

    1. Some of the finely crafted wood drift boats are so beautiful. Aren't the commercials always much louder than the show? I think there was some push back on that years ago.
