Corona World

It's tough to see what's going on in Italy on the news.

I can't imagine living through that.

I guess that's why all the lockdowns here to keep that from happening.

I don't know.  Seems quite unreal.  We have a few over a hundred cases in Oregon.

19 of those are this county where I live.

Disproportionately affected, given the number of counties in the state.  Don't know why.

I think you have to be near death to get a test though.

Tonight there was a muddled confusing press conference with the governor and other officials, including the Mayor of Portland, for some reason.  I think he'd like to lock down the entire state.  The conflict between him and the governor, who doesn't want to do that, was quite noticable.  He's just the Mayor of Portland, not the Governor.   Seems likely Portland will be locked down, maybe by Monday.  He's hot to trot on that idea, easy to tell.  I wandered off, uninterested, in a matter of minutes, it was so confusing and mostly finger shaking, at us citizens for not properly distancing from one another.

A zillion people have lost their jobs, including my older brother and his wife, who both worked in travel.

On that note, I went to the park today, to get out a bit, and wandered down to the falls.  I felt tired by then and the rocks were warm and without another soul to be seen, I finally took a nap beside the roaring falls.

I really have had no human contact since the ban on spay neuter.  I probably won't have human contact for another month or maybe longer.  It's not healthy, I know, but there's nothing I can do about it.  We are under order here, to not socialize outside of your own group or family.  That leaves me completely alone for who knows how long.

I watched the bugs in the pools of water caught in rocks, away from the river, when there was more water running through.

The park is about all I have.  In the summer, the park is miserably crowded and not somewhere I go to spend time.   I wonder if that will be different this summer.   And if not, there will probably be closure.

  1. That looks like a truly blissful spot to spend time - made better by the absence of people.
The first town in Italy to record a death from the virus locked the whole town down and tested everyone. A surprising number were positive - including those with no symptoms. Those who tested positive were put in strick isolation. A fortnight later the rate of infection has dropped dramatically. It seems that a lockdown has some big positives.

    1. We still have no real testing going on in Oregon. And those who do get tested wait for a week or more for results, so its no good that way. Our problem in Oregon and probably elsewhere is many people are completely ignoring the social distancing rules. I saw that at the park today with the frisbee golfers. People from Portland, where there is infection, are travelling to the beach, since many aren't working, and taking it there possibly, where there have been no infections and those are small towns who can't deal with it. The governor wasn't happy tonight in the news conference and rightfully so.

    2. People do not understand they need to stay in their local communities, to not spread it to other communities or bring it back to theirs, and not get together except with those they live and share germs with constantly.

  2. PS: Which I should have said earlier. I am sorry for your brother and his wife, and all those who have lost jobs. Hard times the world over.

    1. Yes, I am sorry too, for them. And they're clear over in Idaho now. I wonder sometimes if I'll see them again.

  3. Isolation is definitely hard, not to mention people who are not working like you brother and wife. Everyone has their own story and we're all in this together. I just wish everyone understood that and not watch out only for themselves and ignore the possibility of spreading the virus.

In the meantime, I really enjoyed the pictures of your visit to the park. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yes, the stress on each is different. I heard domestic violence hotlines and child abuse hotlines are getting more calls. It could be very stressful on a marraige or mother I bet.

  4. Locals scoffed at me a few months ago when I mentioned the coronavirus. Maybe I noted that before, but definitely wish all peoples the best. Too bad we can't bring you here. ~hugs~ Take care, my dear.

    1. It'd be kind of nice to be quarantined with someone else I think.

    2. Yes, I agree, and am very fortunate.

I really appreciated your comment on my last post. I'm sorry you were stressed, but the last line made me giggle. You 'own' that Welsh heritage, girl. :) By the way, my husband left those lines blank. And, as I thought I'd dreamed, I am the one who put the paper on his desk. ~sigh~ I shouldn't stay up until I'm all but sleepwalking. Heh...

  5. The mayor of Houston definitely wants the opposite. He isn’t saying it outright, but he seems like he’d just like to ignore the virus and go on as usual. There was fake news about Texas being on lockdown. They had to set the record straight in a news conference. Everyone is going nuts.

    1. No kidding everyone is going nuts. I really hope this blows over eventually, and I'd think the sooner the better, if we have to go on lockdown, now is better than later, to control it, for the sake of the kids really, for one thing, so their lives can get back to being kids, and young families can grow to be old families, under more normal conditions. Or something. I suppose what i'm trying to verbalize if we need to lock down to get it contained, let's do it and be done with it, so we can move forward.

Taking pleasure in nature is nice. I doubt it will be busy this summer.
