Oh Brother, This Car

More car problems.  It's been clanking when I go over the slightest bump.  This has been going on awhile, but lately has become far worse.

I think its up front and with the bouncing, I figure its bad struts, but could be control arm and ball joints or leaf spring shackles, etc., according to online search and Youtube videos searched with "clanking noise when going over bumps". It's suspension, that's for sure.

I can't do much to check on my own with one finger not functioning and kind of in the way.  I'm anxious to get that healed and useful.  I was quite hopeful I'd find some tool forgotten by me or the mechanic I used for the next to last biggest job on the car, which was a front brake job and another front wheel bearing replacement.  But I couldn't see one down in there anywhere. I was hopeful I'd find something under a seat somewhere, like a couple of pieces of metal (right), responsible for the sounds.

I could not see a thing that looked bad or like hanging down using a mirror and a flashlight.

This car will be the end of me, I swear.

My finger is healing but slower than I'd like.  It got off to a slow healing start because I was bending it, which would break it open.  I've had to immobilize and also quit taking the aleve for now, for my inflamed shoulder and my mouth where my tooth was pulled.  The tooth pulling event inflamed my facial nerves badly, so I felt I needed the Aleve to calm things down.  But I'm using ice and heat now instead of Aleve, so my finger can heal and not leak blood, from Aleve in my system.

For awhile I even took to left hand shifting in my car, so I wouldn't be tempted to bend that finger around the shifter.

I took one cat only to be fixed yesterday.  I was not going to help this woman again but I relented, for some reason.   Knew the cat otherwise would not be fixed  She doesn't communicate, after initial contact.  It's really difficult and stressful.  But Banana was fixed.  Good thing.  She'd been in heat and by this time, was pregnant, although barely.

Banana, from N. Albany, fixed yesterday.
Today I got two more spots and took up Davies and Shadow, from Sweet Home.  This is Davies, a boy.

Shadow, a gray tabby Sweet Home girl, being fixed today.

Well, I better try to find somewhere to fix the car.  I'll check bolt tightness on the struts, at least on top.  Wish I had a hydraulic jack.  I just have a really crappy door jack.  I used to have a good jack but it was lost in my last move.

Be very careful with the jack. Someone was killed just a week or so ago here where a car slipped off the jack. Your finger probably should have had a splint to stop it bending. Sadly as we get older, we don't heal as quickly.

    1. Yeah and one stitch grabbed the long tail of another across from it, creating a tight pull across the slanted wound, cutting off blood to part of it. I took all but one out today myself. Instant relief!

    2. I'm not jacking it up. I'm overly cautious if anything, throw the tire, if I take it off under the car too. Blocks behind tires. Blocks and jack stands. I used to just straddle a ditch. That was a whole lot easier.

  3. You take a licking and keep on ticking. (Remember that commercial?) Despite an injured finger, a problem car, and difficult people; you still managed to get more cats fixed. Kudos!

The 4th

Happy the 4th is over.   It's the fireworks.   They terrify some of my cats.  Not the old deaf ones.   Gigi hid under the cat stairs in...
