Too Much

In over my head, is another way to put it besides Too Much, like the post title.

The Lebanon colony ate my soul today.  I was there almost four hours.  They were not awake when I got there at 11:00 a.m. to round up left overs--anybody left not yet fixed.

KATA had visited the sisters last week, attempting to get some of the moms with kittens out of there, including two survivors of four kittens the sister took from the wildish mom, or, if you believe her, the mom left behind the non working dryer.  They're dead now.  They wouldn't turn any kittens or adults over.  KATA had a nursing mom, who would have helped those two, still alive then.

There were six litters before all four of those, from the fourth litter, died.  I really doubt more than a couple kittens from all those litters will end up surviving unless they hand them over to a group like KATA.

I caught one of the moms today who had the first litter there.   There were three left alive but they've lost one now.   I asked how they could lose a kitten, and not even find a body.  They waved off the question.

I think I have just five cats left needing fixed there, outside of the kittens.  All of them are females.  I have 8 here now.

I know what four of the five look like too, which is a big plus, since over half the cats were fixed before, long ago, way before I arrived on scene and none of those got ear tips when fixed.  That makes it hard to know.

So, despite how hard it is for me to go there and be yelled at and insulted by the mean sister, the job is getting done.

I feel dirty when I leave there and sad to the bone.

Yesterday, if today isn't enough, I went to Lebanon again, same complex I've been to before, but a far happier place.  Management was letting a tenant feed another young mom with kittens.  She'd had them on the tenants tiny back patio area.  The young mom was defensive of the kittens, now six weeks old or more.   I insisted we first trap the mom and put a water bottle with a string tied around the neck under the trap door.  The kittens ran in and out of the trap then, without springing it, and finally suspicious paranoid young mom went in, and from inside the apartment, I yanked the string, pulling out the bottle and the trap closed on her.

We then hand grabbed the three darling kittens.  KATA took them in.

The mom will be fixed and returned.  I felt so sad for her.

And the young mom, who will be fixed tomorrow.
This morning I got both Knox Butte colony young wild boys in one carrier and met the woman taking them to their new barn home.  From the photos, looks like a great place to call home.  They have built several tree houses for the cats on their property.  They have heated beds too.   My My.  Quite the upgrade.

That's Shasta on the left, Cortez on the right.  This was just before I uncovered their cage.  To hide then, they went into the carrier, that I then closed.  Off they went, to their new home.  Good luck boys.

Well its my bed time.  Tomorrow is a big day.  I'll take 11 cats up to be fixed.  One is a massive Albany male, two are from Halsey but soon moving to Albany, another is that young Lebanon mom, then seven of the eight from the Lebanon colony will also be fixed.  I have 11 reservations tomorrow you see, after two people each gave me two of their spots.

  1. I am super impressed at all you do, and your tenacity in the face of human stupidity and nastiness. Sometimes from the same person.
Thank you for all you do.

  2. It is so upsetting to me that people can be so abusive of animals. I spoke with an autistic young man yesterday about the horrors of animal abuse and his desire to one day pass laws against human treating animals with no regard. He was so well spoken on the issue, and I agreed with him 100%.

    1. It's really quite horrible in this county. I've lived here a good share of my life so I don't know if its much better elsewhere. I hope that young man grows up and makes a big difference! The future is with the young now.

I think when you go to Lebanon, you need to march in and act like a general. You may not intimidate all, but you will some people.

    1. I'll get a five star uniform at the thrift shop. That should get people's attention. Maybe a sword too.
