Heartsick. Columbia River Gorge Goes up in Flames

You can read about it here, and see some dramatic photos.
I want to cry this morning.

There are fires burning all over Oregon.

But two days ago, one broke out near Eagle Creek trail, near Cascade Lockes, in the Columbia River Gorge, when some stupid teen used illegal fireworks, or so the news said.  I hope that person is thrown in jail forever along with his parents.  That kind of stupidity and indifference to Oregon and Oregonians should not be allowed in society.  A woman saw them do it, tried to stop them, then ran for police.  But the idiots set it off and the fire started instantly.  Someone got a video of police talking to the teens and to their parents.  They were in a minivan.  They need to go to jail, the whole lot of them.

Here's the story including a video someone took of them being questioned by police.

The fire has exploded and the gorge is being eaten alive by fire this morning.  Many communities are being evacuated.  The fire has jumped to the Washington side.  This is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I am heartsick.

If they have been given tickets already, can they be prosecuted for the same thing again? I doubt it. They should be locked up, for sure.

    1. I shouldn't have said they were ticketed. I don't think they were. I think its an active investigation.

  2. My heart goes out to every living thing in the fire's path. Sadly each year a lot of our fires are started deliberately. Not just through stupidity, but deliberately. And jail is too good for the arsonists.

  3. I'm so sad. Nature starts enough fires without stupid humans helping.
