Cancelled Lunch. My Brother's New Tilt Trailer Stolen in Albany

My brother was coming to town today.   He was excited.  He'd found a tilt trailer for his business and was coming to pick it up today.   We were going to have lunch after he picked up the trailer at Brattain International Trucks, which is over by Home Depot.  But this morning, he called and sounded down.  Brattain called him this morning to claim the trailer he was to buy this morning, had been stolen last night.

You can actually see the trailer he was supposed to buy this morning from I5, on google maps street view.  It's the shorter one, second in, on the north lot corner, just to the left of the white sign hanging off the fence that says Busses for Sale.  I guess they are hard to find.  I guess if you see it, along a road, hidden in brush, behind a house of someone who probably didn't buy it, call the cops.

Check out the tilt trailer my brother was set to buy this morning on google maps, from I5.

UPDATE:  In the crime report today: Stolen vehicle  8:32 a.m. Thursday, 1700 block of Fescue Street. Thieves took a trailer from Brattain International. The flatbed, double-axle trailer was behind the fence, but thieves cut it. Police are investigating tire tracks left on the ground.

He was also going to do a couple repairs here, like remove the old doorbell, after its latest sticking incident.  I probably didn't mention that.  Not long after the guy comes over, who wants to know about Zeva, wanting to trap her, after which the neighbor who now claims her sent me threats by text, the door bell rang, middle of the night.  That was Christmas night, although it was after midnight so technically it was the day after Christmas.

I woke groggy, thinking "oh brother, what now".   I'd been sound asleep and didn't know what was waking me at first.   But then I realized it was the doorbell and that it had stuck on, buzzing at the transformer box in the hall. Its' done this before.  To "unstick" it, I have to go out and hit the button a couple times.  Which I did do, after a careful and "armed" check of the outside.

People steal during the holidays and often they first knock or ring the bell to see if anyone is home.  This happened to me before, right after Christmas, only they knocked and it was scary people out there.  Scared me to death.  But I told them I had a shotgun and I was counting down from five and when I got to one, I was firing and they ran.  Boy did they run.  Then I called Jack who came out swinging a baseball bat in the air.  He wanted some of it, boy did he ever.

Breaking in here is like breaking into a thrift shop since almost everything here was had for free or used to begin with.  Be sorely disappointed thieves.  They would not even find a beer in the fridge with which to ease their disappointment, sad to say.  Nothing to take from here that could be sold for even one cheap heroin fix.  Thieving supports drug habits in this area.   Pretty darn sad.  People work so they can buy things they want or need, only to have them destroyed or stolen by people who have sold their souls to drugs.

So that was nothing new here, and that's what I figured was going on.  Thieves.

But the doorbell and transformer need replaced.  Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't.  I got a replacement set, that includes a wireless transformer this time.  They're easier.  You can get battery or electric powered ones you plug in, or a combo plug in with backup batteries.

So my brother said he's install the new button for me.  It's not like I can't, but I love to have him around.  But he's not coming.

He was depressed over the trailer theft.

I told him thieving is really common here.  But I was also thinking they don't have security cameras?  Maybe they do. That's right by the freeway, and very close to the state police and a big motel and don't those businesses at least have security cameras?

And I miss out on lunch with my younger brother.  I didn't get to see him over the holidays so I was looking forward to it.  But I am learning about all these different types of utility trailers now that I never knew existed.  My brother has been looking for one for quite awhile, for his business, one heavy duty enough to haul his excavator.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about the theft... what a bummer. But am sorry too that your brother won't be visiting... I know how much I miss my brother, and how disappointed I would be. Hope things look up soon.

The missing trailer sounds odd to me. You are right to be be suspicious. On of the former honours among thieves was not to steal from poorer people but with drugs motivating the crimes, that has gone out the window.

    1. Yeah, does sound a bit odd, to vanish during the night before he was to pick it up. But there is a lot of that goes on around here, stealing that is. The drug people that break into people's houses and sometimes are found in a shower or passed out on a couch or eating food, they're scary. They don't even know where they are sometimes.

    1. It was in the crime report today. "Stolen vehicle — 8:32 a.m. Thursday, 1700 block of Fescue Street. Thieves took a trailer from Brattain International. I think my brother said it would take more than a month to get another from the manufacturer in Idaho.

  5. It's cold comfort, but I'm glad it wasn't stolen from him after the purchase at least. We have a heroin problem here and I think that's why thieves stole some of my Halloween decorations in 2014. It made me put out fewer this year, especially since we had to go out of town for my niece's Halloween wedding. I hope you get to see your brother soon.

    1. Yes I think drugs fuel lots of stealing around here too. Heroin is cheap here, and those who were addicted to pain killers are turning to that, with the crackdown on pain pill prescribing. I want to see my brother and hope to do so, one way or another.
