Bye Bye Mystic, Tonka and Winter

Today was sloshy, soggy----wet!

Rain fell mercilessly and constantly, as if the skies were only full of rain and it was all falling.

The yard is dingy and dirty looking with brown rotting leaves scattered here and there, and the grass patchy and muddy, unfit.   I feel the sogginess has infiltrated me, too.

I loaded the three kittens, born in the berry vines down along the freeway, into two carriers.  Mystic got her own.  The boys shared.   They never uttered a sound all the way up, although I kept up a constant chatter, trying to reassure them and keep my emotions in check.  I love them.

The water came down at the windshield in volumes too high for my wipers to keep up.  I slowed down.  Many people didn't and were even exceeding the speed limit in conditions that did not merit such reckless behavior.

Once I left the freeway for the back roads to CATS, (Cat Alliance Team Sanctuary), I found a lot of spots with water on the road, and sometimes over it.  I had expected this.

There were adoptions going on today at CATS.  I followed two women up the stairs and was taken aback to learn they'd come to meet Tonka.  I quickly brought him up from the car.  We let him out of my carrier (Winter stayed put and wouldn't budge).   He at first hissed then ran to a corner but quickly calmed down.  I left the two women with him, after telling them all about his history.

They adopted him, albeit a trial adoption.   I hope it goes ok.  They seemed so nice.

I left my carrier up there, so Winter could acclimate in it a bit longer.  I didn't want to make his fear worse.  He's the shyest, and also very very smart.  It's such a huge change for the three of them, all within a month's time.

Mystic at CATS.  She already found a new friend, before I left.  I worry for Winter, however.  He's like me, a worry wort.

Bye babies, good luck too.  Love you, always will.

I am a bit misty here, but love that yet more cats have some hope. Because of you.

How sweet but what an awful drive it must have been. We rarely see rain like that, more is the pity.

    1. We usually don't see this much rain in such a short time either.

  3. There are so many hard parts to the very important work you do and this is one of them.
However, it makes me think about when we got our second set of cats. They were barn cats, who from an early age, had been fostered before adoption. We got them at a pet adoption day and Leo wouldn't come out of the carrier although his sister, Annie, had no problem with it. We took both of them and many years later, Leo is the more affectionate one. Annie's more of a boss than a lap cat. However, along with the other two, they make our life much richer. You're recently adopted kitties will do the same in their new home.

    1. Winter will be an awesome companion to someone, I just know it, and there will be someone for him like you were the someone for Annie and Leo.

I love the way you're so attuned to each cat's personality. :)

    1. Yes, Noah has been seen in Oregon several times.
They all do have such distinct personalities, like people!
