Dos Mas

I lucked out last night.  I didn't think I'd get lucky last night.  I did.

I knew it was going to rain off and on for a week starting today.  What better time, I thought, than last night, before the rains set in, to try for that last cat out at the farm, that big black male I'd seen only twice in all the times I'd been out there, to trap or feed.

However, when I arrived, Bob was out.
Rooster Bob

Rooster Bob was hungry and scrounging the parking lot for food.  When he turned up a rooster among hens who actually lay eggs, they were not sure what to do with him, so they turned him out of the hen house and he is now a mascot, been around for years, they said.

Then I spotted somebody I didn't know was there, a kitten without an ear tip and boy was she hungry.  I caught her, which was good, because it reminded the others, by this time milling around wanting wet food, what a trap does and they spooked off.  What a perfect time to catch that boy, if I'm ever going to, I thought.  I set two traps and left, because they know my car.

I returned one hour later to find Major Black in the trap and none too happy.  He was so disturbed in the trap, tearing at it, that I contacted Heartland to see if by chance they were having surgery.   Not!   So...I ran him up to be fixed today at the FCCO.  Back early too.  The little black and white long hair girl is super skinny and anemic from fleas.  She was crawling in them.  And cold.  And so pathetic she's not going back.  I had to cut a big blob of pitch out of her hair near her butt. I thought she had been bitten, but she had tried to pull it off and it was raw skin I was seeing.  She purred while I cut out that pitch.   I'll find her  a place to go.  She'd not gotten nearly enough to eat, competing with the others.

Poor little girl.

The little kitten, and you can see the pitch patch wound near her butt.

Does he look happy to you?
Dos Mas.  Two More.  The last two needing caught (I hope).

Everybody is fixed out there now.  14 fixed, 13 kittens removed (by me).  4 more kittens were removed by KATA.  That's 31 cats helped at that one location.

Speaking of raw skin, the end of my thumbnail is now raw skin.  And wouldn't you know, giving Miss D her meds this a.m., guess where she hooked into me?   It brought me to my knees in agony.  She hooked me right in that raw skin where I no longer have a thumbnail.  Of all places.

  1. Ouch on your thumb. I am not surprised though. It seems to be a rule that if somewhere is already hurting it will cop more damage.
Yay for saving little miss and that very beautiful (but crabby looking) boy. Congratulations. And thank you for those who cannot say it.

    1. You are right, if you have an injury, seems there's a target on it for more pain. Major Black is not a happy cat. However, he did eat three plates of wet food before his release, one of them laced with wormer.

Another success story. Look out for your thumb becoming infected.

    1. Yes, no more reproduction there. As for my thumb, I did wash it in H2O2 after Miss D nailed me.

  4. Bless your heart! I had a lot of catching up to do on reading and want to say that I hope your thumb heals quickly and that your poor arm feels better.

On another note, those exponentially raised living costs are frightening. I've been envious of a friend living in such a beautiful area until she needed help from her parents to pay her rent. Best wishes for your future and that of your neighbors. I am thankful not to have (so far!) seen such a nightmare in my part of the United States.

Keep up the good work stepping up for these precious creatures. Please take care of yourself, too.

Awesome photos of fall foliage and pretty kitties, as always, and the bed looks wonderful. I'm glad that worked out finally. Well done. You have a very generous and victorious spirit. Sleep well and have a Happy Halloween!

    1. Glad your area is not going through the drastic rises in rent and costs of living. That's sad about your friend. Nice her parents can help. It's too pretty here maybe, so many people have been moving to the Portland area. It is beautiful, but won't be so much if the big earthquake ever hits. Toast! I have been sleeping like you wouldn't believe on that bed. I don't wake up like I used to. I don't toss and turn. I guess a good mattress really can make a difference.

    1. Thanks, but I love doing it. Gives me something to do that I know is making a difference---cutting the population down humanely.
