KATA has a long list from people calling and gave me two other situations to call, both in trailer parks. You can always count on trailer parks for unfixed cats!
I already had one trailer park boy from Tangent in the garage, for example.
I headed off to another Albany trailer park, and collected four adults, and 8 kittens. The four adults are three females and one male. The kittens are a mishmash of 7 to 8 week old leftovers who couldn't be given away I assume from all 3 females. Stories changed more rapidly than the weather, however, there. I could not keep up on what cat was chasing dogs and which kitten came from which mother and which father. Too much information!
Incredulously, I was told one female had been taken away for a couple of days last winter and returned with an ear tip and a shaved stomach, only to then have kittens again. Ok, I thought. But then out came the alleged ear tipped female, and very noticeably without an ear tip. Hmmmm.
Adult female, to be fixed tomorrow |
Another adult female to be fixed tomorrow |
Adult male to be fixed tomorrow |
So then I went to another trailer park nearby where an old woman had moved in to find a cat problem and was feeding them. I don't call those cat problems. I call them people problems. Cats can't use condoms or birth control, after all.
Same old horror story type trailer park. I had to stop the old woman from unloading her trailer park animal abuse horror stories on me, because, I told her, I've heard and seen so much, I'll go stark raving mad if I hear or see more animal abuse and neglect and awfulness.
People want to unburden themselves on someone, from what they've had to witness in places like that. I know that. But I couldn't be that person for her.
There were kittens and lots of adults. I had only 3 of the 8 spots left, so I trapped 3 and I think they are all girls. I hope to find a way to help get the rest fixed. For the cats sake and for the old woman's sake, alone there in a sea of apathy, hate towards the cats, cynicism and worse.
Three is a good start, I say!
Black beat up male I didn't catch |
Caught two black ones and I think both are girls, but not sure |
There are kittens there. I saw three and intend to net them and get them out of there, if I can find a place to take them. They'll need some taming. |
Besides the two blacks I caught this silver tabby girl. All the females will be lactating or pregnant at this time of year. |
Well done you. That is a few more ticks for cats.
ReplyDeleteThanks, felt good, to get back in the saddle again!
DeleteI meant to add my own mother had a cat problem. My step father used to feed and look after stray cats and after he died my mother continued to feed them but she could not care for them. It has taken some years but I think she is now down to four who for whatever reason no longer breed. Maybe they are all males. Mother has one as a favourite, a pet, but she won't let it inside the house.
ReplyDeleteI see Andrew. Maybe I'll head for Australia with a live trap.
DeleteA very good start. I hope your tummy issues subside and you can get some more sleep.
ReplyDeleteI got right back to sleep. Ate too many black eyed peas. I love black eyed peas. I love them too much.
DeleteI hope you feel better. Way to go on telling that woman to stop dumping on you! That's a shame about trailer parks. I'm not surprised. On a personal note, that gray and white male looks like a short haired version of my late, beloved Luna. Thank you for all your efforts!
ReplyDeleteYeah, people can be so strange! You sound like a perfect cat owner! Would you like a few, a dozen maybe?
DeleteSo many cats... and all so beautiful. There is a trailer park that abuts this wildlife refuge. Occasionally cats will find its way over here. None ever have collars or any ID. We live trap them... take them to a no kill cat shelter in Presque Isle for evaluation etc. I've only taken in 2 in the years we've been here and the cat shelter told me they would find homes. Did they belong to someone in the trailer park? I don't know, but know if they've been here in the refuge several days they are hungry and need attention.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you do that, they certainly have no future or place there.
DeleteThose kittens are so lovely..
ReplyDeleteYes, and boy did they have a ball when turned loose in the rescue's kitten room, with toys and cat furniture. OMG, it was a riot to watch!
DeleteHow do I donate to the spay and neuter fund?
ReplyDeleteAt my nonprofit's website: www.bluestray.org and just state its for the spay neuter fund and THANK YOU!
