Flea Market Adventures

I had a table yesterday, at the Western Star Grange flea market.  I took boxes of things given to me by the woman whom I helped move, plus some of my own unwanted items.

I made $66 over table fee, for The Happy Cat Club, my new nonprofit.

Not bad!

It was fun.  Not that many people came by.  The grange is kind of way out in the country.  I love it out there.   I know the people who manage the grange.  I helped them with cats many years ago.  I helped with cats at the grange too, and we once held a Neuterscooter clinic there.  The grange manager's kids and I crossed the street to the hoarders house and although she refused to answer the door, we grabbed flea anemic dying kittens and shoved them into our shirts and rushed them back across to the clinic.  The Neuterscooter vet found them homes.

The hoarder's house is gone now, long bulldozed away.  The hoarder used to call it the Lion Shack and I always thought she was saying "line shack" but it really was a Lion shack, and housed a lion amongst other wild animals, who roamed the property, movie studio caste offs or something. I wish I knew more of that very interesting history.

The grange managers son came by, now all grown up, and we hugged. It was so good to see him, a man now.   So did some farmers I know from helping them with cats, many times over.  They live on Peoria road, retired now, bent from age and Steve's accident, when he was hit and badly injured driving slow moving farm machinery on the road.

So just to see familiar faces, it was a meaningful day.

The bikers came by the score.  They bike along the country roads weekends, decked out in bright spandex gear and trendy colorful helmets, bike shoes clicking on the hardwood floor of the old grange.  They come in, for a break or to get water or to use the bathroom or to eat lunch put on by the grange people in the kitchen area.  There are always home made cookies.

The flea market tables go for $10 for an 8 footer for the day.  Comes with two chairs, too.  There are six to eight vendors is all.  Most are repeats, there every second Saturday of every month the flea market operates.  I was lucky to get in. It was fun to just see people and chat and joke with the other vendors.

I set up and sat down and sometimes walked around some looking at other vendor wares and chatted with people.  I sold mostly small items, so the $66 made was hard fought.

I'll be back for another round, second Saturday of July.  Come on by, if you're local!

    1. Yes, I thought so, so am trying to think of some medium priced type objects to make for next time.

  4. Glad to hear you got something for helping your friend move besides a sore back. If only I could be there, sweetie. Joe and I always empty our pockets at the local set-ups for no kill shelters.

    1. I was happy to make a bit at the flea market and I did have an enjoyable day also, but I could have used customers like you and Joe for sure! I would make sure I had toad houses and such all ready for you.
