The digital changeover from analog means most analog antenna viewers in the mid valley will receive one to zero stations. That's because of the mid valley location in respect to digital transmitters from TV stations.
Albany residents might get three stations, two from Eugene and OPB. Lebanon people might get one channel, OPB while Sweet Home residents will be totally snowed under with no reception whatsoever once the changeover occurs.
So are you ready? For many mid valley residents, that means one thing: get ready for snow channels or buying cable or satelite hookup. What a deal! (for cable and satelite companies).
On the upside, exercise and reading activities may increase in the mid valley region of Oregon.

ReplyDeleteSame here. I wouldn't even have that if it were up to me. I suppose I could still get PBS with the right antenna, and that would be enough for me.
ReplyDeletei've got digital cable with hbo and showtime..lucky me, huh? There are groups of volunteers who are helping the elderly and such put in converter boxes.....are there any in oregon?
ReplyDeleteYes, there are volunteers helping, Jeanne. But having a converter box does no good in many areas. Analog signal was easier to tune in, in areas where you'd get a fairly decent picture, with digital, you get a good signal or none, there's no inbetween. Oregon has only two cities that broadcast signal, Portland and Eugene, in this area. We are halfway inbetween and so in many places in the mid valley, the digital signal is not strong enough from the north or the south to produce reception. A converter box won't help many many people. I don't know how bad the problem is nationwide. It's only in certain spots. Even near Portland, if people do not have a house top antenna aimed at a certain compass heading, towards the signal tower, they're not getting channels either. They were giving out the compass headings to aim roof top antennas for some cities surrounding Portland last night. In many areas it is not as simple as connecting a converter box and top of TV antenna.
