Mansion People Morally Bankrupt?

Albany black tux male being fixed today. Usually, he resides in Crabtree.
And the torti, being fixed from Albany.
The big lovable Millersburg stray male known as Stuey.

I took back the two boys today. Total cost to fix the mansion cats: $205. Plus the gas I spent going all the way out there three times. I actually expected them to shell out the entire cost. See, when KATA referred those females to me, they and I thought it would be some shack or trashy trailer I'd drive up to out there. Even after talking to them, I thought that. I did explain to one of them how it worked, that people donated what they could afford up to the full cost of the surgeries and I told them what the full cost would be. I talked to one person, but KATA had been e-mailed by another, and then I talked to yet another.

I don't know who even I was talking to and I may never have talked to an adult. Might have all been girls, teens, late teens, not sure. And maybe the girls didn't confide what they were up to with their parents, which might explain things.

Today, standing on their granite deck, with pillars, I was handed a twenty dollar bill. My gut reaction was to spit on that $20 and tuck it back into her pocket defiantely.

My second reaction was to explain the full cost of the surgeries and how hard volunteers work to raise that money. Her face remained stone, like the granite we stood on. I realized I wasn't talking to anyone who cared what had been put out for them. I drove off.

I wasn't totally surprised. Vicki of KATA had reminded me already that the poor always contribute more than the rich, to getting their own cats fixed.

When I first drove into a mansion, not the trash strewn yard of a moldy falling apart shack, I figured these people might be more likely to take a volunteer for a ride far more so than any trashy trailer person would dream of doing. That's how some rich people get rich.

I still harbored good thoughts for them, thinking they'd be honest and if they could afford to pay for the fixes, they would do so, because they're also church people. I thought "well, maybe they're in foreclosure."

But then when I saw them tearing out a barn that was falling over, on the property, I thought "People in dire financial striats don't begin property improvements."

I sent them an e-mail, outlining my disgust/confusion, although it's a respectful e-mail and maybe they'll see the light.

So I think I probably just encountered some morally bankrupt people. Maybe they're not financially bankrupt, but there are a lot of kinds of bankrupty.

In other news, the Millersburg cat man has now caught two more of hte four cats there, leaving only one in need of catching.

And the Albany business who trapped two ferals so far who have now been fixed, called out of the blue, that they caught another. That one is up being fixed right now, along with the two former Albany cats, now of Crabtree, who did not show up the week before last. They are owned by an Albany woman with too many cats. Her landlord made her give up some, whom she took out to a friend's property in Crabtree. Only two of the 17 weren't fixed yet. I had already taken the rest in. He was supposed to bring them the week before last and never showed, so the Albany woman went and got them. I picked them up at her place last night and they are up being fixed.

I wonder who they voted for in the presidential election. It might not mean much--if anything--but I would put my money of McCain.

I've been seeing the mansions burn in CA, and I would enjoy the sight except I figure they'll just squander even more resources to build them back again, and everyone's insurance rates will go up to pay for their indulgence. If there were a terrorist who just targeted such people as these, I would have sympathy for him.

  2. I heartily disagree. Being generous and kind does not have anything to do with having money.. It's in a person's spirit, I think. Also, to actually say that anyone should be targeted by terrorists is pretty pathetic. Talk about mean-spirited.

Jody, I'm sorry you got the short end of the stick once again.I hope you can shame them into reimbursing you if they are too stupid to realize the huge favor you did for them. K

  3. K, I would not think anything bad for these people, and I still hope there is a legitimate reason they were so stingy. I still hope to find out they're in bankruptcy, which is kind of an odd thought/concept, but to me, that would make me feel better about them.

By contrast, I ran into Biker John, on the way home, who was taking that stray back for his follow up appointment. Now that stray ended up badly hurt in the trashiest trailer park in town. However, he was immediately surrounded by loving low income people, who took him, took him to the vet, shelled out money from their very shallow pockets, to give him care, without any complaint. They are inspirational. His name is now Buddy. The absess looks horrible but he is healing. He may have been attacked by a dog. That was a fortunate stray.

How unfortunate would his fate have been, had he sought help from the likes of the Mansion people, instead of from the trashy trailer park people, I wonder. I now realize who really lives in mansions of gold---Some glowing souls at Heatherdale trailer park, to name a few! It's really very thought provoking and beautiful in a way. The mansion have my pity only. Mansions are so sterile and useless as a living environment.

One might think, yet I have never known a rich person who was anything but spoiled, selfish, and glaringly inconsiderate. They are a blight on the earth in my opinion.

  5. I have to disagree that just because someone has money, they are evil personified and stingy! I DO know some people like that but that is the same as saying Jewish people or people of a certain race or gender are more morally deficient finacially than others. Sociological studies show this just is not so.

I see kids of all kinds in my work and there are some families (most really) who will help others and some who are so cauht up in their own troubles and world, they never think (even when it is suggested they might want to talk to others coping with the same issue- ie pediatric cancer) - that helping someone might help them.

I see exceedingly poor people who will demand all they can get and also some wealthy people who will demand extra attention because of who they are (they don't get it and I treat every child the same tho one has to consider the level of care of the kind of canecr - to me, those are the deciding factors. Not money or race or gender or any other factor!).

My great grandfather was in politics in another country and my ggrandmother made him do the dishes every night, esnuring he dare not think he was any more important than anyone else- and he adored living on a kibbutz in Israel in his retirement where he was simly known by his first name and treated the same was anyone else. Woe to the person who tried to accord him special attention!!! S.he really got an earful!!!

So, I feel the same way. It is the kind of person you are - not what your bank account says! I know one man who donated a million to our hospital as soon as he could (his mom has been a nurse and died of cancer and he never acts like he is a big time person.) Our hospital system is funded by the govt but for some reasech money and extra "little things" like a TV and VCR for each child's room, that money foes a long way to help a child with leukemia or some other illness!

And the donation of $10 by someone who can barely afford it is just as equally valued because it shows they care - or if they cannot afford it, their time and kindness to others - is just as important. I never want to be judged by my bank acct but ny what I do to help others and how I make my community and country and if I can, my world , a better place. Anything less and I do not deserve any respect! We all need to help each other - always!

And for cyncics, pls do not think I am naive- I have worked with Frs without VBorders and pretty much seen some waful things- beenm held at gun point, you name it. I know the world is not always a good place- esp for my tribe thanks to that little corporal from Autria and others who hate me for nothing I can control. I just live and do my best! It's all any of us can! No matter how much money we have! (and I am happy as lonmg as I have enough for me and my cats to live relatively well!

Anyway, off my soapbox! And no, I am not a millinaire- I have made huge donations of time and money to my orgs and that is where my money will go - as my dad has quipped, he has never seen a hease with a UHall!

  7. I know you're like a saint, Siobhan! You do lots of great things for people all over the world. I think the young adult kids were doing this without their parents knowledge. I like to believe if the parents had known, they would have paid in full for the spays and neuters.
