Fighting for Adoptions

I'm experiencing self doubt lately. I've been unable to adopt out a cat for the life of me. Kitten season is hitting the valley, evidenced in free kitten ads and fliers already appearing. What does this mean? It means adult cats waiting in shelters and rescues are going to have a tough time getting homes.

Our worship of youth is not limited to our own species.

I'm feeling it myself. The older I get the more I have to fight for anything. My own body wants to betray my desires on what I need it to do for me. If I need help finding something in a store, and there's a young person also wanting help finding something, that young person gets what they want first.

It's hard not to feel unneeded and very alone in my life struggles the older I grow. The adult cats not only are often unwanted, but their unwanted status in many cases gets them killed in shelters.

In Hitler's Germany, the unwanteds, the fringe people, the mentally ill, disabled, runaways, abused wives who had been committed by their husbands to mental institutes and homosexuals were the first ones to be gassed. Some of the killing chambers were within a stones' throw of a church.

I think about the parallels sometimes, to my own life, and of course to that of the strays.

The key to adopting out adult cats lies in showcasing their worthiness, their hearts, baring their souls publicly so potential adopters can see the beauty and wisdom and love hiding behind an adult cat face.

I must find a way to show their true beauty.

  1. Old equals unwanted, or at least less wanted. Sad but true. Now, if you had a LOT of money, it would mute the sting somewhat. Yep, lots of money. That's what you need. Me too.

  2. Hmmmmmm. Now, how to get lots of money. Hmmmmmmmm. Lottery. Lawsuit. Inheritance. I got no relatives who would leave me anything. Don't currently have anyone to sue. That leaves lottery. Guess I'll go down to the 7-11 and buy my chance at respect!

Nothing To It

What does one say, to arrive at a new colony, get out of the car to discuss with the cats' caretaker, how we will proceed, when she blur...
